Writing

Start a daily journal about what's happening in your life right now. Pay specific attention to the feelings that you might be having about this experience. Start to notice seed ideas for writing a persuasive letter or opinion article on something that feels important to you. Say to yourself, "What do I think about this?"

Choose one activity per day.

What is Westward Expansion?

Watch the Brainpop video, from your Clever account, Westward Expansion to get the “big idea” behind this movement.

Gain deeper understanding of Westward Expansion by reading the Scholastic articles about Thomas Jefferson and the Louisiana Purchase.

Questions to think about: How did the purchase of the Louisiana Purchase change life for all living on North America? Who all was affected by this purchase and how were their lives affected?

What dissolves?

In the kitchen, investigate what powders (flour, salt, sugar, cinnamon, baking soda, etc.) will dissolve in water. Decide how much water and how much powder you will use for each test, and then be consistent. Make a table to show your findings.

If there are any powders that don’t dissolve, what can you do to "help" them dissolve? Write a paragraph to explain your findings.
