Activity 1: Make and record You will be successful if you:

Make the bonds of___ in order, setting out the numicon correctly Record the number sentences that goes with each pair

Challenge: Mix up all the shapes. Parent will pick any shape and child must find the matching shape to make the bond.

Activity 2: Feely bag- put the numcion into a feely bag. Parent lifts one shape out and child must find the matching shape for the agreed number bond, without looking in the bag.

It is not necessary to read the whole book that has been sent home from cover to cover each night!

Here are some ideas to help engage your child in discussion about the book.

In doing so, you will be helping to:

Night 1: Walkthrough Talk about front cover, characters, title, what do they think it’s about? Can it

be linked to their own experiences? (E.g. trip to the zoo) Read and chat about the blurb at the back.

Night 2: Revisit Read together the book, stopping at appropriate times to look at sounds, ask

questions and make predictions. Encourage your child to make use of reading strategies (see booklet) Encourage them to use punctuation and cues to add expression (e.g. when a

word is written in bold or an exclamation mark is used) To close this session get children to find tricky words or make a list of words

which belong to a family (e.g. sounds, rhyming words, words ending in ‘ed’, words that begin with blends)
