With a major in Political Science, a minor in writing, and public relations experience, Kendall is striving to be a rare ‘academic commodity’ – providing something more than a communications degree and knowledge of pop culture – in entertainment PR.

While at UC Merced

Kendall took on positions such as Officer of Communications for the Black Student Union (BSU), founded the Speech & Debate Club while acting as Public Relations head of the club, and during summers interned with a creative agency, gaining experience in PR, marketing, branding, web design and more. These leadership positions within the school allowed for Wright to build great rapport within the student body, which is important as an effective communicator. As an intern for Creativity Ainta Side Hustle, LLC, duties involved constant correspondence and email updates, creative methods in raising awareness about events, with intent for larger and more interested turnouts. The internship provided Kendall with a sense of urgency and to get tasks done under time constraints. Within PR, therefore, one must be skilled in developing persuasive pitches and correspondence capable of properly engaging individuals: that was accomplished. In addition to being active in various clubs and internships, he participated in the 5th Annual Oratorical Contest during his freshman year.

In the Future

Kendall plans to go to Pepperdine to receive his Masters in Communications to be a more viable candidate in his intended field. Prior to this, he will be positioning himself with more creative/PR agencies to gain experiences in his field of work. With this, he intends on opening his own PR firm, being selective with the clientele he chooses to represent as he believes his platform, given through his speaking and writing duties, is an important one to be creative while

delivering truthful and accurate representations of clients, products, businesses, etc.

As a student at the University of California Merced, majoring in Political Science, I have great interest in assuming the position as a Public Relations intern for your agency. Independently, I have successfully marketed an independent artist through utilizing pitch grids. Pitch grids demonstrate organization and emphasize a direct purpose. In pitching to distinctly different venues, a pitch’s intention greatly differs. My knowledge in that area along with my ability to quickly determine how a Vibe Magazine pitch would differ from that of Vogue allows for my time to efficiently be used and me to be utilize my time elsewhere.
