NOTE: Serial channels 1, 2, and 3 in the Octel 250 are configurable as either RS232 integration links or system management terminals (SMTs). When used to support an SMT these channels require a null modem. Channel 4 is reserved for SMT use and does not require a null modem.

4.1 ATTENDANT CONSOLE OVERFLOW Attendant consoles on the System 75/Definity G1 cannot be programmed to overflow to a hunt group. Therefore they can not overflow to an Octel 250. There are two possible alternatives:

§ Split the trunks into two groups, directing half to the console and half to the Octel 250.

§ Configure the Octel pilot number as the Night Answer for the console. Then, when the console becomes busy, the attendant can switch to night service sending subsequent calls to the Octel 250. When the console is in night mode, it is disabled and features such as Recall are not available.

4.2 ATTENDANT CONSOLE TRANSFERS § On System 75 and G1PBXs,

attempts by the console to directly access the Octel 250 through the VoiceBridge will result in disconnects. An alternative for transferring callers into mailboxes is for attendants to transfer calls to subscribers' extensions, allowing call coverage to forward callers to the Octel 250.

§ In addition, attendant consoles cannot transfer a call to a station that is busy and busy-call covered or forwarded all-calls to the Octel system access number. In this case, a transfer target should be created that consists of one or more non-integrated ports. The attendant can then transfer callers to the transfer target and enter the extension number for the caller to hear personal greeting.

§ At some System 75 sites the following scenario has been successful for allowing the console to transfer callers directly into a mailbox: from the attendant console, use the keypad to dial just the first two digits of the pilot number. Use a DDS key (Direct Station Select)

programmed with the remaining digits of the pilot number to complete dialing. The operator can then enter a mailbox number and connect the caller to personal greeting.

§ Attendant consoles must call non-integrated ports (a transfer target) to retrieve messages.

5.0 CONFIGURING THE SYSTEM 75/DEFINITY G1 TO INTEGRATE

Four tasks must be completed when programming the PBX to integrate. They are as follows:

§ Configure each analog port.

§ Program a digital port as a 7405D station for each VoiceBridge on your system.

§ Create call coverage path(s) that include the Octel system access number.

§ Change subscriber's station programming to include the proper name field information and call coverage path.

5.1 CONFIGURING THE ANALOG PORTSo Define the analog ports that will connect to the Octel 250. Assign a

consecutive block. Assign a consecutive block of extension numbers to these ports, if possible. Enter the "ADD STATION XXXX" command (XXXX is the extension of the analog port). The FEATURE OPTIONS must be configured as follows:

5.2 PROGRAMMING THE 7405D DIGITAL STATIONo Define the digital port as a

7405D set. The main extension number of this port will be the Octel system access number. Set up the 7405D for 10 call appearances, one for each of the call appearance buttons. Then, create a station-busy indicator for each of the analog ports to be integrated. This is done using the programmable feature buttons. Following is the actual programming required. Figure 1 shows how the station should be configured.

§ The 'Restrict last appearance' parameter reserves the last line on the set for transfers and message notification. Earlier System 75 PBXs configure this automatically. For later System 75 and Definity PBXs, set this field to "Y".

o Double-check your entries when finished, and press the "NEXT PAGE" key.

o In the next screen, program busy indicators on the 7405D set for each analog port, using the FEATURE BUTTON ASSIGNMENTS. Start with feature button one, and list the extensions in order, without gaps. An example is shown in Figure 2. When finished, double-check your entries and press the NEXT PAGE key.

o The next screen should read "Display Button Assignments". Enter "normal" for display button number one, as shown in Figure 3. This is all the programming required for this screen, and is the final step for configuring the 7405D set. Press the ENTER key to accept all of the 7405D station programming you have entered.

5.3 CONFIGURING A CALL COVERAGE PATHA coverage path forwards calls to

another extension if the station is in use or not answered. Placing the VoiceBridge extension number in a coverage path will send busy and ring-no-answer calls to the Octel 250 to be answered.

o Enter "ADD COVERAGE PATH n" -- n is an available coverage path number.

§ Define the coverage path as desired. For the following conditions, specify that you want such calls to be answered by the Octel 250 by entering "y". Usually, call coverage is programmed for both inside and outside calls, for Busy and Don't Answer conditions.

Active: If any call appearance is off hook, calls will forward.Busy: If all call appearances are offhook, calls will forward.Don't Answer: Unanswered calls forward after the specified number

of rings.All: All calls forward immediately without ringing the subscriber's

station.

§ For coverage Point1, assign the extension of the 7405D set you programmed for the VoiceBridge.

5.4 PERFORMING SUBSCRIBER ADMINISTRATIONSubscriber administration has two parts: administering the name field, and assigning the call coverage path.

o For a station to integrate, the entire extension number must appear within the first 16 characters of the subscriber name field. Long names may need abbreviating. Here are some examples of valid name field entries:

Smith, John 201John 210 SmithJohn Smith 201Livingston, S 202

Numbers other than the extension number may be included if they have fewer digits than the extension number. For example, "Conf Rm 3, 230" is acceptable.

o To program a subscriber for integration, enter "CHANGE STATION xxxx". Follow these steps for each subscriber:

§ Name: Enter a valid name entry, as defined above.

§ Coverage Path: Enter the number you previously assigned to the coverage path for the Octel system.

§ LWC Reception? msa-spe

§ LWC Activation? n

§ These are the only changes required for integration. Do not change any other field.

R1V2 systems might experience message-waiting lights that do not extinguish. This is a known inconsistency in the Lucent software. Once the Octel 250 has been verified as functioning properly, Lucent should be contacted by the customer for assistance.

NOTE: Single line stations should have "Message Indication: LED."

6.0 CONFIGURING THE OCTEL 250 o Menu 1.1 - System Parameters

MMMM = logical terminal number (LTN) of each analog port (0001-0024)

The physical link number corresponds with the connector on the CF board of the Octel 250. See Table 1.

The message desk number must match the message desk number to be programmed into the VoiceBridge unit. See sections 6.2 and 6.3.

All nine digits must be entered. Each entry must be unique. The use of the physical link number, however, allows redundant message desk/terminal number coordinates to be used a long as they are spread across separate links.

o Menu 8/9.1 - Mailbox Profile

§ "Subscriber's Extension Number": If the subscriber is allowed to have message waiting, enter his or her phone number in this entry.

§ Assign an approximately equal number of subscribers to each integration link for message waiting with the "Int. Link Number" parameter, found in individual mailbox profiles. If not, all message-waiting commands are sent over link #1 and delays in message waiting may occur.

6.1 CONFIGURING THE PBX TO INTEGRATE WITH MULTIPLE VOICEBRIDGE UNITS

Up to three VoiceBridge units are supported. One digital port is required for each additional VoiceBridge. Follow the programming instructions previously described when the additional VoiceBridges are installed. Care should be taken in the following area:

§ All digital ports (not the analog ports) associated with a VoiceBridge unit must be included as part of one hunt group. The hunt group pilot number will be the Octel system access number.

6.2 CONFIGURING THE VOICEBRIDGE SOFTWAREBefore configuring the VoiceBridge, collect the following information:

§ Number of Voice Mail Ports.

§ Message Desk Number - this must match the message desk number assigned within the Octel 250. The range of values is 001 to 063. This field indicates which Octel 250 is supported by the particular SMDI link.

§ Extension length on the PBX.

§ Extension numbers assigned to the Octel analog ports.

§ The LTN (logical terminal number) for each Octel analog port.

§ Leave-Word-Calling enable and disable codes. Verify these with the PBX technician.

6.3 CONFIGURING THE VOICEBRIDGEBefore configuring the VoiceBridge, collect the following information:

§ Number of Voice Mail Ports.

NOTE: If you have any difficulty, please refer to the VoiceBridge manual, which contains greater detail on testing and installing VoiceBridge.

¨ To begin entering configuration information, press the FUNC key to reach the Main Menu. Then follow these steps:

§ Press 4 to reach the Setup Menu.

§ Press 1, for Params. This will allow you to edit the global parameters.

§ Fields will be presented, one at a time. Enter the appropriate information for each. The fields are as follows:

Number of Ports: Enter number of ports associated with this particular VoiceBridge.

Msg Desk Number: 001

Directory Numbers: Variable (This must be set to variable)

MWI Feature: ENABLE.

MWI Interleave: 5 ( Refer to VB Manual for description)

Msg Waiting On: Enter Leave Word Calling activate code.

Msg. Waiting Off: Enter Leave Word Calling deactivate code.

Call sequence: Call/Data .

¨ From the Setup menu press 4 for Advanced options. Arrow down to Answer delay field. This must be set to 2500ms. If less than 2500ms, the first call to an idle VB will be delayed before answered by a greeting.Answer Delay: 2500 ms

¨ To configure the SMDI datalink press the FUNC key to get to Main Menu, then 2 to access the Utilities Menu, then 3 to access the Serial Ports Menu, then 1 for Centrex. The link must be configured so as to

match the configuration of the Integration Link on the Octel Overture 250.

o Press the FUNC key. This will return you to the Setup Menu. Press the 2 key to edit the port configuration, as follows:

§ For each port, enter the LTN and the extension number. Use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to move from one port to another.

o Press the FUNC key twice. this should bring you to the Main Menu. The system will ask the following questions. Answer as indicated.

§ SAVE EDITS? 1 - Yes

§ START SYSTEM? 1 - Yes

Within a few seconds, integration is active, utilizing the new configuration. You will be placed in the View Mode on VoiceBridge.

o The VoiceBridge Manual contains much more information on the functionality of the VoiceBridge. Refer to it to set the date and time on the unit, to set security levels, and to learn more about the functionality of VoiceBridge.

7.0 INSTALLING THE VOICEBRIDGEo Locate a cool, dry place to install the VoiceBridge. A grounded AC

wall outlet of appropriate voltage is required.

o Remove the VoiceBridge from its packaging. Locate the power switch and verify that it is OFF. Attach the power cord to the appropriate connection on the back of the VoiceBridge, and plug the other end into the wall outlet.

o Locate the 6' telephone line cord that shipped with the unit. Insert it into the RJ-45 connector on the VoiceBridge, marked "line A". Connect the other end of the telephone cord to the jack for the 7405 station set created for VoiceBridge.

o Connect the 10' Centrex cable that shipped with the unit to the DB25 connector on the back of the VoiceBridge. It should be marked "Link A". Connect the other end of this cable to the appropriate connector on the Octel 250 CF board as outlined in the section 7.1.

Before installing the VoiceBridge, be sure to ground yourself to prevent damage to the device from static.

Never attach cables to the VoiceBridge while it is powered.

7.1 INSTALLING THE INTEGRATION LINKThe CF board has four serial channels: channels 1, 2, and 3 are configurable as either RS-232 integration links or system management terminals. Channel 4 is for primary system management/ local service only. Up to three RS232 integration links can be directly connected to the CF board. See Figure 4.

o Fasten the DB9 end of the RS232 cable to the appropriate connector on the CF board of the Octel 250. See Figure 4.

7.2 CONNECTING THE ANALOG CHANNELSEach FLT supports 8 voice ports and

connects to the switch via a single 25-pair male-Amphenol cable. See Figure 5 for cable pin-outs.

o Physically connect the lines used for the voice path between the switch and the Octel 250. The voice lines are connected to the switch using customer-supplied male-amphenol cables which terminate on the main backplane on the Octel frames. See Figure 5.

7.3 POWERING THE VOICEBRIDGEo Turn on the VoiceBridge unit.

The power switch is located in the back. The unit should begin a self-test and boot sequence. If any of the self-tests fail, the screen will display "No Module - Waiting for Remote Access". If this occurs, refer to the VoiceBridge manual for resolution.

7.4 TESTING THE INSTALLATIONo Create two mailboxes associated

with two test extensions. Record a name and personal greeting for each mailbox.

o Assign a call coverage path to the test extensions that contain Octel’s hunt group number as the first member.

o Using one test extension, call the other test extension. You should hear the personal greeting.

o Leave a message. Verify that the message-waiting indicator turns on.

o Verify that return to operator works properly.

o Call the Octel system access number from a test extension. You should immediately hear the recorded name and be asked to enter your password.

o Review the message in the mailbox. Verify that the direct reply feature works by pressing 8 at the end of the message.

o Delete the message. Verify that the message-waiting indicator turns off.

8.0 CONSIDERATIONS8.1 The TN746 circuit card is not

supported for integration; it is a -24 Vdc card. The TN742 and TN746B cards, -48 Vdc cards, are supported.

If using existing hardware, check the revision of analog circuit cards in the PBX. Voltage levels might vary on lower revisions of the eight-port analog circuit pack, causing garbled messages and prompts in a limited number of cases. Installing Revision 17 or higher port cards corrects the voltage fluctuation. If an Octel 250 is integrated on lower revision analog cards, customers must be aware of this potential problem and that, if it is experienced at their site, they are responsible for upgrading the circuit packs.

8.2 The System 75/Definity G1 does not support unsupervised transfers to busy stations without busy-call coverage programming. Calls will be lost. Ensure that all applicable extensions have busy-call coverage programmed, including all extensions configured as return-to-operator targets.

8.3 The attendant console on G1 and System 75 PBXs cannot directly access the VoiceBridge. In order for attendants to successfully transfer callers to the Octel 250, a transfer target is required. See the section 4.2 of this note for details.

8.4 Use of the message-return feature might cause ring-no-answer condition and caller disconnect. (We suggest creating a Class of Restriction (COR) to prevent access to the VoiceBridge ports using this feature. In addition, a COR should be created for the analog ports associated with the Octel 250. In place of using the message-return feature, create a speed-call number to be used to retrieve messages. Assign this speed-call number to a button on the feature phone.)

8.5 DCS is Lucent's PBX networking package. Octel Communications Sales Engineering must be contacted regarding DCS sites. In general,

all integration features are supported with the exception of Call Coverage on the remote nodes. Users on the remote nodes must use station-call forwarding (all-calls) to achieve personal greeting.

8.6 Octel Communications recommends dedicating ports for automated attendant instead of processing such calls through the VoiceBridge. If you choose to go through the VoiceBridge, callers will hear the following: one ring on the VoiceBridge answers and puts the caller on hold for 1.5 seconds, one ring on the port, and then the greeting. (If music-on-hold is activated on the PBX, the caller will hear 1.5 seconds of music. This can be restricted by programming the VoiceBridge ports for Data Restriction).

8.7 Extensions on the System 75 and Definity G1 can be a maximum of five digits. Therefore, to support integration, the maximum number of digits in a mailbox can be five.

8.8 When a user’s message-waiting light is illuminated and the Leave Word Calling (LWC) feature is being used exclusively by the Octel 250, the user will only need to call the Octel 250 for their messages.

If the LWC feature is being used by the Octel 250 and other sources (i.e., a message center or station users), then users without display terminals must contact their designated message retriever to determine the source of their message-waiting light.

CAUTION: Users with display terminals and message retrievers must not delete any Octel message on their display. This allows the Octel 250 to turn off the message-waiting light when voice messages are reviewed.

8.9 DCS is Lucent's PBX networking package. In a DCS environment, subscribers on the remote nodes may not have the same integration feature functionality as those on the hub node. In general, all integration features are supported. Call Coverage support on the remote nodes is dependent on the type of switch and software as follows:

- If they are on a G3 V2 or higher system, the Remote Call Coverage feature is standard and allows coverage to personal greeting for Busy and RNA conditions.

- If they are on a G2, they must call cover to a VDN that routes the call to the hub system. This allows coverage to personal greeting on Busy and RNA conditions. VDN software is an optional package on the G2. Without VDN S/W, they will be limited to station call forwarding All Calls only.

- If they are on a System 75 or G1 system, they are limited to station call forwarding All Calls only.

In all cases MWI is supported to the remote hubs over a DCS network.

NOTE: G3i V1 7.0 with DCS is not supported. The PBX causes the display field to shift two characters. In addition, V1 software also does not support Call Coverage to a VDN.
