As an Events Assistant you will play a vital role in the professional delivery of great marketing, excellent events and ultimately – memorable fundraising experiences for our supporters.

Our events portfolio currently ranges from night-time walks, Race for life 5K, 10K, Pretty Muddy, through to the UK’s first women only marathon.

Role Profile Role Title: Events Assistant

Summary of the Role’s Main Purpose:

Cancer Research UK’s Event Assistant Scheme is a fantastic opportunity for you to play an integral role in the successful delivery of some of the country’s leading events, that generate substantial and sustained income for Cancer Research UK’s life saving, world class research.

Cancer Research UK’s event team is split into 9 regional teams and we are looking for Event Assistants in each of these regions. In 2015 each regional team will have a dedicated team of Event Assistants (EA’s) who will support the Area Event Managers with the delivery of all their events from May to July.

Key Responsibilities: Support the Event Manager in the delivery of their events Manage a large number of volunteers Manage and own key areas of responsibility including; course management and start and finish

management Manage some operational responsibilities including setting up and dismantling equipment Ensuring all Cancer Research UK health and safety guidelines are met Support the delivery of regional events marketing and communications activity (where

applicable and necessary) to recruit event participants and volunteers Build knowledge of and relationship with key stakeholders in the communities where events

are held Look after any found children at events

Key Behaviours, Competencies and Skills: A passion for events and event management The motivation, tenacity and ability to support the delivery of logistically complex and large

scale events Proactive in achieving results, capable of solving problems and responding positively to new

opportunities and challenges Confident and practical attitude, with the ability to work on own initiative Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with a range of people Confident in making logical decisions on event day to improve the supporter and volunteer

experience Exceptional communication skills and the confidence to represent Cancer Research UK and

manage large groups of volunteers Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to multitask

Additional Considerations: Physical activity is required Willing to work unsociable hours This is predominantly weekend work Working in all weather conditions (cold, rain, wind and sunshine!) You may be required to travel and stay away from home as required It is preferable to hold a full and clean driving licence but not always essential Must be willing to work across Regional Events Eligible to work in the UK CRUK will carry out an Enhanced DBS with barred list check as part of your induction

Key Role Details:Location: Regionally based across the UK.

Salary: £7.20 per hour

Number of Events: You will be required to work at approximately 6 Events during May – July*.

Hours of Work: Your hours of work will vary depending on the type and size of event.

Start Date: May 2016

End Date: *July 2016

Contract: Casual contract

*There will also be some events that we need support for in September and October.

Recruitment process and timescales

Recruitment process

The first stage of the process is to complete an online application; you will be asked a number of questions relating to the role.

Shortlising will be completed by the 26th February 2016.

Assessment days will be held in each region week commencing 14th March 2016. The assessments day will comprise of a practical task and an interview. Unfortunately if you are not able to attend the Assessment day we are not able to consider your application.

Offers will be made week commencing 21st March 2016.

Training day

A compulsory training day will be held on the 11th and 12th April, if you are not able to attend the training day unfortunately we are not in a position to offer you a role. You will not be paid for the training days, however your travel costs will be reimbursed.

About EventsRace For Life

Race for Life is Cancer Research UK’s flagship event. It is the largest women-only fundraising event in the UK and has been taking place since 1994. Race for Life is a community, with everyone united against cancer – all cancers. At Race for Life women lead the way, banding together to raise vital funds. Everyone is welcome - women of all ages,sizes and fitness levels are invited to run or walk5K, 10K or Pretty Muddy and raise sponsorship for completing the distance. Since Race for Life began anincredible six million participants have raised over £457 million for vital research into all 200 types of cancer. There are approximately 280 events around the UK taking place between May and July.

The National Events team is a field based team that covers the entire country. We are split into 9 regions as depicted above. The regions cover the following areas:

Regions Northern Ireland, Scotland and North East England (including Scotland, Belfast, Tyne and Wear) North (covering Yorkshire, Cleveland, Lincolnshire) North West (covering Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside and North Wales) Midlands (covering West and East Midlands, Warwickshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire) East Anglia (covering Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire) Central England (covering Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Bedfordshire, Berkshire

and Northamptonshire) South West and South Wales (covering Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Wiltshire and South and Mid Wales). London (within the M25) South (including East Dorset, Kent, Hampshire, East and West Sussex).
