Week Beginning – Monday 6th July – Year One Phonics Activities

This week we are going to be focusing on:- ur (nurse with a purse)- ure (sure it’s pure)

We are learning about a digraph and trigraph this week. Does anyone remember what these words mean?

Phonics Task 1 – Option A Before we get started, here are two videos for you to watch about the ur (nurse with a purse) sound.

Here is your activity for today. Choose two colours; one for real words, one for alien words. Your job is to colour in the boxes that have real words with one colour and colour in the boxes with the alien words in the other colour. The work sheet with be attached for todays activities.

Can you come up with or think of any other words that have the sound ur? Make a list of your own.

I’ll give you some clues;

Phonics Task 1 – Option B Write the sound ur at the top of a piece of paper. Go and choose a book of your choice and try and find at least three different words that you found or came up with yesterday.

Phonics Task 2 – Option A Below are ten sentences. Using the words in the grid below, you are going to fill in the missing gaps. Cross the words out once you have used them.

Extension Task:Using the above words, can you come up with a sentence with at least one word in each sentence.
