Hello Everybody,

Hope you are all staying safe. We had our first remote D.E.C. meeting on May 8th. We did get a few things done. We will be moving to building #50. It does need some work so I will be putting out blasts when the time comes for help with scraping and painting and then with the move.

We are still looking for donations for the Education Grant. We are $1,200.00 short. Every little bit helps so send in what you can. We have a volunteer temporary Secretary. Her name is Sheri Della Vecchia. She will be in the office on Monday, Wednesday & Friday 9:30-12:30. Please feel free to call her if you have questions or need answers. Also, mail is being picked up so keep membership and donations coming in.

I hope you all have a good spring. I will be in contact via blasts if anything should come up.If anyone wants to come up to the office to help with packing, please call me at the number listed below.

Messages from the Department

ALAMIS Access: All Units should have at least one member; each unit can have up to two, either the President and/or Membership chairman, signed up for the ALAMIS system. The cost is $10 per person per calendar year. This gives your Unit up to date membership rosters, allows your unit to do name and address changes or corrections, allows your Unit to enter new member information, allows you to see who has paid online, as the department is only notified twice a month during busier times and once a month during slower periods, of online dues payments from the National Organization of who has paid their dues online.

Reminders:

You still have to transmit the dues and a transmittal with the new member to the Department Office in order for the new member to be a bona fide member of the Auxiliary.

Once a member has paid their dues online it is their responsibility to notify the Unit that they are a paid member by producing their receipt or membership card issued by the National Organization to the Unit.

If your Unit fundraises in the State of Connecticut, and this includes Distribution of Poppies, as well as any other form of fundraising, then your Unit must complete and send in to the State of Connecticut, Department of Consumer Protection “Claim of Exemption From Full Registration Application”. It only takes a few minutes to fill out this form. To protect your Unit and members this form needs to be filed with the State. It is a onetime deal and there is no cost to be registered. The form and instructions were in your PIC packets distributed in September.

Department Office Hours: Sheri will be in the office every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30-12:30. If you need anything from the office and cannot make it during these times, please call and make an appointment.

Auxiliare: All information, messages or announcements that you would like in the Auxiliare must be submitted to the Department Office no later than the 15th of the month prior in order for the Auxiliare to be sent out on time each month. Articles and messages need to be no longer than a half page. Any Unit wishing to advertise a fundraiser with a flyer in the printed Auxiliare the cost will be $10 per month to help offset the cost of printing and postage. All flyers need to be in PDF form and submitted to the Department Office no later than the 15th of the month prior.

Membership: When sending in new members please fill out the Membership Data form with the same information that the member fills out on the application. Please keep the original application with your unit files and send only the membership data form.

National Website: sign up today to the member’s only portal on the National website. Alaforveterans.org . While you are there sign up for the e-news, keep up on what’s happening at the National level, in other Departments and Units. There is a wealth of information just waiting for you to access.

Outstanding Bond Payments are now past due: Please remit to the Department Office $16.50 for your Bond. This is for three years, 2019, 2020, and 2021. Earmark the check Unit Bond. Thank you to all that have already sent theirs in! This is a financial obligation of each and every Unit. Still need the following unit bond payments:

o District 1, unit 80 and 197

o District 2, units 1, 10, 24, 45, 50, 83, 135, 187

o District 3, units 74, 177

o District 5, units 9 and 128

o District 6, units 20, 22, 159, 173

o District 7, units 75 and 156

EDUCATION

Thank you to all who donated to the Education grants. We got 15 applications, after the adjustment from the Past Presidents Parley we had eight candidates and it looks like we will have enough money for all 8. I will keep you posted. 

What did you do for Teacher Appreciation Week? Let's hear about it. 

To anyone who has not given a report, please send ASAP. It will make next year’s report easier. 

Now is the time to start collecting for next fall. Gather backpacks and supplies for kids in need next year. It may be a different experience and they will need all the support we can give them.

MEMBERSHIPWe are close to the end of the membership year but let’s not give up on this year yet. We are not ready to say “That’s All Folks”.

The theme for the 2020-2021 Membership Year will remain “Looney Tunes” and the Districts will remain the same characters. The membership packets will be ready for pick up at the Department office in the next couple of weeks. Madam President Lydia will communicate to everyone when she will be at the office for you to do so.

The Department Executive Committee voted to cancel the charters of 7 Units at their virtual meeting. This is very sad. There a quite a few that are on the verge of having theirs pulled as well. We need to strengthen the Units so we don’t have to close the doors. If you feel your Unit is in trouble, you need help recruiting members or want your Unit to be revitalized, please do not hesitate to call the Department Office (860-616-2343) and ask for help. We will send out a team to try and get you back on your feet. We cannot continue canceling charters.

Personnel

Hello,

I hope everyone is doing well and keeping safe in these crazy times we are all facing. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

As many of you know, our office worker left us abruptly and our Department Office has been running on a volunteer basis. I would like to thank everyone who has stepped up to help. The Personnel Committee has been in touch with each other, and we have decided to move forward and hire two (2) part time people to work in the office, which has been accepted by our Department Executive Committee.Unfortunately, this is not something that will not happen right away due to a number of reasons, the first being due to our current situation with the pandemic that we are dealing with.With this being said, Personnel will be putting together an ad looking for a Secretary as well as a Treasurer/ Bookkeeper, along with their duties and the qualifications that we will be looking for. Once this is done, we will be notifying our members, which hopefully, will not be too far into the future. Thank you for your understanding.

Dear Sister and Brother Members,

 I'd like to start by giving my Condolences to all that have been personally and forever affected by the Coronavirus.  A few of our members as well as their families and friends have had to experience this first hand and I'd like to let you know, we are here for you.🙏🙏

Spring is finally in the air, I pray everyone is holding up and healthy during the Pandemic!

Things are starting to open up with many changes and even more changes to come with our office moving across the way.  This is an exciting time for us and a new beginning for our next 100 years. Let's all pull together and help to make this transition an enjoyable time for all.  Always remember to be supportive, kind and helpful to each other.

 Memorial Day is next week and although most Parades are cancelled let's show our support of all those that continue to keep our Country and us safe at this time. Please fly your Flags and do something extra for those that are or have served in our Armed Forces. As well as our First Responders, we are all in this together and a little appreciation and a smile goes a long way.

If I can be of any help please let me know. Let's keep the communication between our Units and Members strong.  I know not much is going on right now and we don't get together, however we can call or video chat or drop a note in the mail or email to let them know you are thinking about them.

 Perhaps you have some concerns regarding your Unit or Members and need to talk or have questions on how to get new members or to keep what you have and want to entice participation, please contact me and I will help you to be able to grow a stronger Unit.  It all starts by reaching out for information and by always being Kind and Thoughtful to Everyone. We need to practice giving respect to get respect.
