From the images above British bands like The Beatles and Rolling Stones revitalised British pop which was then introduced in America. These Musicians often introduced alternative ways of dressing with simple tailored suits topped with parkas and Mary Quant (British model) who I believe inspires Charity’s wardrobe invented the mini-skirt which was a major trend specifically in the 1960s.

The reason I decided to pick Music as my topic for this assignment was because it has a huge impact and connection to the fashion trends that we set in the 1960s. For example;

Jimi Hendrix was a legendary guitarist and fashion icon specifically in the 1950s and 60s.

He gave a sharp and glamorous edge to fashion industry and for artists during that time. He was an important figure in the 1960s favouring vintage jackets with his vibrant velvet suits, psychedelically patterned silk suits which we could take influence from for the rhythm of life as that has connections to Jimi’s style.

Jimi Hendrix’s choice in fashion can be used for Daddy’s costume because of his use of head bands, scarfs around his body. He was during the time of the peace/flower movement and even takes inspiration to promote it through his fashion statements. He is a perfect example of a man who was not afraid to be himself and make bold choices during an era that was so sensitive and only starting to accept musicians for them.

I am going to use this research by visiting charity stores and look specifically for items of clothing like scalfs, hats and headbands that the cast can wear for the ‘rhythm of life’ because I want this performance to have influence of Jimi Hendrix and other fearless rock artists during the 1960s. I want it to also have political messages that were spoken about during this era for example; Vietnam War where the United States began air raids on North Vietnam and also in communist areas of the south.

We can do this by simply buying a plain white t-shirt and getting some dye or paint and writing it on them for a few of our class mates to wear on stage.

A lot of Elvis’s dance movements were impactful in the 60s especially on the dance floor due to him being a huge musician and artist in the 1900s and in present life today. His look, confidence and music style are all still popular and spoken about in reality but most importantly during the mid 1960s era.

The Beatles going to India and bringing back with them a variety of traditional clothing and later on in the 60’s they started the popular hippie trend which I feel was a new turn for fashion in that particular era.

I plan to buy a few plain white t-shirts and use tie dye in order to present views on the peace movement and hippie era in the 1960s. Psycelacic clothing must be colourful, powerful and eye catching and I intend on doing this by using bright paints and dyes and flowers in order to make it convincing to myself, team and especially the audience.

MY FASHION ICON AND INSPIRATION FOR THIS PROJECT IS JIMI HENDRIX WHO I PREVIOUSLY SPOKE ABOUT BEFORE. I BELIEVE HE IS A POWERFUL AND HISTORIC FASHION AND MUSIC ICON WHO CHANGED THE INDUSTRY AND MADE IT OKAY TO BE DIFFERENT AND TO EMBRACE PEACE, PSYCELACIC ROCK MUSIC AND ESPECIALLY TO EXPERIEMENT WITH DRUGS DURING THAT TIME.
