Notice that throughout this chapter, Eleizer continually questions; this shows ________________ conflict. Describe the conflict demonstrated in each of the pieces of evidence below.

Quote from the Text Conflict and Explanation“I pinched myself: Was I still alive? Was I awake? How was it possible that men, women, and children were being burned and that the world kept silent? No. All this could not be real” (32).“For the first time, I felt anger rising within me. Why should I sanctify His name? The Almighty, the eternal and terrible Master of the Universe, chose to be silent. What was there to thank Him for?” (33).

“I stood petrified. What had happened to me? My father had just been struck, in front of me, and I had not even blinked” (39).

Background on Jewish Holidays Rosh Hashanah – the Jewish New Year.

Yom Kippur - also known as Day of Atonement, is the holiest day of the year for the Jews. Its central themes are atonement and repentance. Jews traditionally observe this holy day with a 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue services. Yom Kippur completes the annual period known in Judaism as the High Holy Days.

Passover - is a Jewish holiday and festival. It commemorates the story of the Exodus, in which the ancient Israelites were freed from slavery in Egypt. Passover begins on the 15th day of the month of Nisan in the Jewish calendar, which is in spring in the Northern Hemisphere, and is celebrated for seven or eight days. It is one of the most widely observed Jewish holidays.
