Advent Prayer for the Second Sunday of Advent…..God our Father, you spoke to the prophets of oldof a Saviour who would bring peace. You helped them to spread the joyful message of his coming kingdom.Help us, as we prepare to celebrate his birth, to share with those around usthe good news of your power and love.We ask this through Jesus Christ, the light who is coming into the world. Amen. Lord Jesus, light of the world, the prophets said you would bring peace and save your people in trouble.Give peace in our hearts at Christmas and show all the world God’s love. Amen
Thought for this week….by Rev. Nicola Callen
Advent, one of the 2 main penitential seasons is upon us. If there is no course to attend, I try to have an Advent book, or sometimes read a chapter a day of a chosen book. I have actually picked 2: one of which is “The challenge of Jesus” by Tom
Wright. Already the amount is down from the intention to read one chapter a day- our days can be so busy can’t they? But I am going to make an effort.
Repentance, in this season, and especially for the Gospel reading about John, means to turn around from the things that are wrong: that we let creep in, even as Christians. The military instruction “about turn” fits the meaning of repentance. But all is not wrong,
and I trust that we will all have a good Advent as we lead up to our great celebration of the birth of Jesus. As Tiny Tim said in A Christmas Carol: “May God bless us, every one.”
