Renaissance Faire Project Phase 1 Overview: Every student will choose a role to play on project day. Once a decision has been reached, research will be done to understand all aspects of that role. Class assignments will also be required during this phase to help students with the background of this time period. This is the most important choice you will make for this project, so choose wisely! Please do all of the tasks in the order given. Grading: The following tasks will be graded for completion and correctness and will be averaged with the reflection essay on Friday, 12/14. The following tasks will be due with the next notebook check (TBD), however, you can get tasks checked off as they are completed. Remember, this is part of your midterm grade. Task 1: Using reliable websites and texts (including Amsco and other history textbooks), research the time period 600 - 1000. Overview: Every student will choose a role to play on project day.

Once a decision has been reached, research will be done to understand all aspects of that role. Class assignments will also be required during this phase to help students with the background of this time period. This is the most important choice you will make for this project, so choose wisely! Please do all of the tasks in the order given.

Grading: The following tasks will be graded for completion and correctness and will be averaged

with the reflection essay on Friday, 12/14. The following tasks will be due with the next

notebook check (TBD), however, you can get tasks checked off as they are completed.

Remember, this is part of your midterm grade.

Task 1: Using reliable websites and texts (including Amsco and other history textbooks),

research the time period 600 - 1000. In your interactive notebook, write 3 complete paragraphs that answer the following questions.

1) How did most of the population live during this time?2) How was government organized?3) What was the role of the Christian Church ?

Task 2: Using reliable websites and texts, research the time period 1200 - 1600. In your

interactive notebook, draw a diagram of the social structure during this time.

Task 3: Choose a member of society that you will represent in the project. Choices should be

based on the following criteria. Choose a first and second choice!

➔ may be any social class, but must fit into one of the know classes of people

➔ may be a historical figure or an individual representative of a group/class

➔ must be from the time period 1300 - 1650➔ must be able to perform or do a demonstration on the faire day

Page 2: mparkerjcchs.files.wordpress.com  · Web viewRenaissance Faire Project. Phase 1. Overview: Every student will choose a role to play on project day. Once a decision has been reached,

➔ must be a valid and credible representation of the role

Task 4: Once you are absolutely sure in your choice, see Mrs. Parker to sign-up for the role.

Although, every effort will be made to allow your first choice, ultimately, we will be

looking for a balance of roles. There will be changes in roles once you have signed-up.

Task 5: Begin researching in depth your individual role. Use the following questions to

guide your research. Take plenty of notes and keep track of your resources. A citation

or bibliography will be required. We will be working on a webquest soon, which will

help guide you to some sources.

❖ Specifically when did your person live?❖ Which social class were they in?❖ What jobs did they do; what was their daily routine?❖ What obstacles did they face in their life?❖ What did they eat and how did they dress?❖ Did they have a family?❖ How would you describe how they lived?❖ Would you want to have lived the same type of life?

Notes: For the faire to be a complete success, it is vital that everyone is thoughtful throughout

this process and is committed to the part. The handout for the next phase will be given out at the end of this week. It will include instructions related to food, costumes, and demonstrations and performances.
