Look at the provided PCs and give eight different areas of a PC that faults may develop in and two faults in each of those eight areas.

Power supply 1. Is making a grinding noise 2. System reboots unexpectedly

Has collected dust and hair preventing it from functioning properly

Upgraded components are not supported by the fitted power supply

Network card 1. Overall connection issues 2. Error message cable is disconnected

Network adaptor in the settings is disabled

Network cable is missing or disconnected

Sound card 1. No sound is coming from my PC speakers 2. Plays sounds but not CDs

Correct drivers are not installed

CD playback is not checked

Graphics card

1. Blue screen and error message 2. Black screen

Incompatible because insufficient RAM is not installed

GPU fan is not working

Hard drive

1. Hard drive failure

2. Hard drive is not recognised by BIOS

Drive controllers might be incompatible so try different controller board

Drive is not enabled

Optical Drive

1. Drive isn’t detected 2. Drive fails to read a disk

Jumper setting wasn’t set correctly

Drivers are not installed to support disk type

Heatsink and Fan

1. Fan isn’t working 2. Error CPU Fan Has Failed

Fan has collected dust due to old age preventing it from spinning

CPU Fan Check is disabled in the BIOS

Operating System 1. Operating System not found 2. Missing Operating System

MBR is incorrect or malformed

Hard Drive is not detected in the BIOS
