1. ROUNDTABLE ON PATENT AND COPYRIGHT LAW IN INDIA: EMERGING ISSUES--17 July 2012

CIPRA, National law School of India University in association with Pennsylvania Law School organized a one day “Round table on Patent and Copyright Law in India:” Emerging Issues covering recent emerging issues and challenges in Patent and Copyright law. Distinguished scholars on IPR including Professor David Nimmer Dr. K.M. Gopakumar,(Third World Network), Dr. K.S. Kardam (Indian Patent Office) Mr. D.P.S. Parmar (Indian Intellectual Property Appellate Board), Professor Polk Wagner (Penn), Professor David Abrams (Penn) Professor Shamnad Basheer (NUJS) Dr. D.G. Shah (Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance) Dr. Navneet Singh Tewatia (UNAIDS) Mr. Zakir Thomas (CSIR), Professor Shyam Balganesh (Penn), Mr. T.C. James (NIPO), Mr. Lawrence Liang (Alternative Law Forum), Professor David Nimmer (UCLA/Irell & Manella), Professor Gideon Parchomovsky (Penn), Mr. Raman Jit Chima (Google India), Professor Yogesh Pai (NLU), Mr. Pranesh Prakash (Centre for Internet & Society, India) and Professor Christopher Yoo (Penn) participated as guest speakers in the programme.

2. TWO DAY WORKSHOP ON COPYRIGHT ISSUES IN RECORDING AND FILM INDUSTRY— 11 th & 12 th December 2012

MHRD Chair on Intellectual Property Rights, Centre for Intellectual Property Rights and Advocacy, National Law School of India University, in association with the Ministry of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government Of India had organised a Two

day “Workshop on Copyright Issues in Recording and Film Industry”, with an objective of creating awareness on the current copyright regime among the Recording and Film Industry’s stakeholders like Producers, Performers, Directors, Lyricists, Distributors, Exhibitor, cable operators, intermediaries, consumers and the public in general.

Inaugural session started with the welcome address by Prof. T. Ramakrishna MHRD Chair professor, which was followed by the lighting the traditional lamp by the Chief Guest Shri. S.M. Jamkhandi, Director, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Bangalore. followed by Shri. G.R. Raghavendra, Director & Registrar, Copyrights office, Ministry Of Human Resource And Development, GOI, New Delhi, delivered the key note address. Mr. K.V. Chandrashaker, former president of Karnataka film chambers of commerce, Mr. T.S Nagabharana Film Director, Actor, Former President of Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy. Mr. Yedeyurappa Tumkur (Author, Cinema Laws), Mr. N.S. Shreedhar Murthy (Editor, Vijayavani), Dr. Somu C.S (Professor Head of the Department, School of Law Christ University, Bangalore) Mr. Vidyashankar (Advocate and Management Consultant), Mr. Harikrishna S. Holla (Advocate, Holla Associate, Advocate and IPR Attorney, Bangalore), Mr. S. Murugan (DIGP, Economic offences. 3. One day international conference on challenges for objective analysis of patentability criteria on - 17 th December 2012.

MHRD Chair on Intellectual Property Rights, Centre for Intellectual Property Rights and Advocacy, National Law School of India University, Bangalore, India, conducted one day “International conference on Challenges for objective Analysis of Patentability Criteria”. Prof. T. Ramakrishna MHRD Chair Professor for IPR delivered welcome address. The conference was inaugurated by Shri Chaitanya Prasad, IAS, Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks, New Delhi with the presidential address by Prof. (Dr.) R. Venkata Rao Vice Chancellor, NLSIU, Bangalore, India. The chief guests address was given by Hon’ble Justice Mr. N. Kumar, Judge, High Court of Karnataka, Bangalore and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sigram Schindler, CEO-TELES PRI, Germany.

4. Workshop On Ipr For The Scientists In The Centre Power Research Institute (Cpri) On 19 th & 20 th Dec. 2012

The Workshop on “IPR Issues & Patenting” was conducted in Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) on December 19 & 20, 2012. Wherein, Basic principles & Acquisition of IP rights, Principles of Patent Law, Law of Copyright, IP Policies & Licensing was discussed extensively by Prof. Ramakrishna, Law of Designs by Ms. Sadhvi C. Kanth.

5. workshop on intellectual property rights for senior officer of Hindustan aeronautics limited (HAL) - 26 th to 28 th December 2012

“Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights for Senior Officer of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)” was held on 26th to 28th December 2012 organised by the National Law School of India University and coordinated by Prof. (Dr) T. Ramakrishna, MHRD Chair professor. The inaugural session was started by Prof. (Dr) T. Ramakrishna, Mr. Ananth Agasthya, HMA Bangalore, delivered Key note address and Prof. R. Venkata Rao, Vice Chancellor, NLSIU. The three day workshop was addressed by experts from different domains of IP Field. Ms. Sheetal Chopra, Joint Director and Head, IPR Division/ IP Facilitation Centre (IPFC), (IPEC) FICCI, New Delhi, Mr. Somashekar, Partner, Brain League IP Services, Bangalore, Mr. Nitin Nair, Partner, Brain League IP Services, Bangalore. 6. Two day workshop on patents and trademarks,

Two Day “Workshop on Patents and Trademarks” was organized by MHRD Chair on Intellectual Property Rights, National Law School of India University, and Bangalore in association with Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, New Delhi, M.S.Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies & Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association on 16th & 17th January, 2013. It had been designed to sensitising these sectors on the nature of the Intellectual Property Rights in general and Patents and Trademarks in particular. 7. Programme on   PPV& FR Act 2001 and discussion on DUS test draft guidelines of Capsicum annum L. 20 th February 2013

An Awareness Program on “PPV& FR Act 2001 and discussion on DUS test draft guidelines of Capsicum annum L”., on 20thFebruary 2013 in Indian Institution of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bangalore as a part of MHRD-IP activities. Ms. Sadhvi .C. Kanth, Research Associate, CIPRA and MHRD Chair on IPR delivered a lecture on Protection of Plant Varieties & Farmer’s Rights Act and its impact on Seed Industry. The main focus of this programme was to create awareness among the Scientists/Plant Breeders

from ICAR Institutions/ Private Seed Companies, Researchers and students regarding Conservation, Protection and Registration of plant varieties by individuals or groups.

8. Special lecture by Mr. G. R. Raghavender and release of “MARCH OF THE IP LAW” NEWSLETTER publication brought out by the MHRD Chair, NLSIU. 4th May 2013:

Copyright Law to serve interests of the Masses and Creators

With support and inspiration from PG Council Chairman Prof. Ramakrishna, MHRD Chair on Intellectual Property Rights, the Convenor of LL.M. Industry Interaction Committee Ms Shivika Choudhary organized the maiden lecture of the industry interaction lecture series on 4th May 2013 at the National Law School of India University. The invited guest speaker was Mr. G. R. Raghavender who is the Registrar of Copyrights and Director in Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, New Delhi.\

During this occasion there was release of “MARCH OF THE IP LAW” NEWSLETTER publication brought out by the MHRD Chair, NLSIU.

9. Workshop on IPR in SJRC college of Law6th April 2013As an Awareness programme, CIPRA organized one day “Workshop

on Intellectual Property Rights” at S.J.R. College of Law, Anand Rao Circle, Bangalore, dated 6th April 2013, by Dr.Venkatesan., Researcher, Centre for IPR and Advocacy, NLSIU made presented on “Fact Screening and Transforming Processor (FSTP): A tool to identify the Patentability Criteria” and Mr.Vivek Anand Sagar, Researcher, Centre for IPR and Advocacy, NLSIU, presented about the ‘Implication of the latest Amendment of Copyright Law: New challenges’ and about by Mr.Premraj, Ph.D Scholar, NLSIU, presented about ‘Parallel important in Patent Law regime’.
