How much does sound decrease when it echoes off walls or flat objects?

Hypothesis

If sound echoes off walls or flat objects it will decrease its decibels by half.

Materials

3 PVC pipes each 3 feet in length and 4 inches in diameter 4 Cardboard Boxes A pair of scissors Duct Tape A Pair of Speaker Decibel meter app on iPhone Computer Sound used by TV producers to bleep out cussing

Procedures

1. with the PVC pipe which is 9 feet long cutout into three 3 feet long sections.2. take a box and use the PVC pipe and a pencil to trace a circle on the box the circle should be in the Middle East

area.3. then you want to take the side that you just marked with your pencil then switch to either the right or left side

of the box then repeat step number two.4. repeat step number one and two on another box which is the same size to the box he used and in Step two and

7. Arrange the PVC pipes and boxes into a form that looks kind of like this

8. put speakers in one of the boxes that you cut one hole in and in the other box that you only cut one hole in and that put the decibel meter in the box.

Conclusion

My hypothesis was wrong because when the sound bounces off the walls the decibels did not decrease but instead increased. Based on further research, I learned that sound does not behave like a particle but instead acts like a megaphone.
