A. Trade Labels:- These are pieces of paper, rubber or any other material pasted or placed on products with some information about the product and the manufacturer. Sometimes the destinations of such products are shown on the trade label.

However, those labels with information about the destination and quantity among other things are sometimes pasted on the outer or larger cartons.

Other types of trade labels are those pasted on containers, such labels are inserted as it is the case with bread loaves. Recent technology in printing is having such labels printed right on the polythene cover of the confectionaries or made into stickers with rubber sheets. All these have made them easier and faster to fix on products.

Examples of Trade labels

B. Book cover design:- It is designs done on the outer part of a book cover, which is made to protect and carry enough information about the content of the book. The cover is usually made with stronger material than the inside pages. Covers are made to be very attractive as a market strategy.

A book cover has a front page that bears the book title, illustrations, the author’s name, the spine by the side and the back cover with the summary of the book content and other information about the author as well as the publisher, the company’s symbol (logo) and the ISBN number from the copyright council, all written in small letter characters to minimize space.

Page 16: olagca.org  · Web viewMATHEMATICS (JSS3) ANGLES OF ELEVATION AND DEPRESSION. Concepts to Know: 1. Angle of Elevation: This is the angle above the normal eye-level (horizontal line).

SOME EXAMPLES OF BOOK COVER DESIGN

C. Book Jacket:- It is very similar to book cover. A book jacket is meant to protect the cover, just as the cover is giving protection to the inner sheets or scripts. Books with jackets most of the time have little or no designs on the cover. Such designs and other information are made on the jacket. In addition to this, a book jacket has flaps which are made to overlap and folded over the cover. Book cover and jacket are made following the same procedure under posters, except that they are folded to shape after the design is completed. Example of a book jacket

Page 17: olagca.org  · Web viewMATHEMATICS (JSS3) ANGLES OF ELEVATION AND DEPRESSION. Concepts to Know: 1. Angle of Elevation: This is the angle above the normal eye-level (horizontal line).

Example of a book jacket

D. Poster Design:- This is a design that could be described as a piece of bill or placard for display in a public place. Poster usually contains information for public consumption. It could also be described as an art work which specifically contains information either in letters or an illustration or even both for the people’s attention.

To carry the message vividly, lettering and symbols are combined to make the design. The symbols are either in the form of a silhouette or two dimensional.

A silhouette is just an outer shape of an object and the inside is painted with one colour. A two dimensional work is a shape of an object treated in the form of light and shade and so you have the light and dark areas separated clearly from each other. The adoption of this method makes the work simple which is one of the important principles of design.

SOME EXAMPLES OF POSTERS

Steps to poster making

viii. Finishing and removal from board.

E. Emblems:- Emblems are designs used to symbolize an individual, a group, or sectional interests or beliefs. Badges, labels and medals can be regarded as emblems. Badges can be said to have emanated from heraldry.

Heraldry is a decorative design meant to pass information in the same way as a poster but has the quality of identifying the bearer of the device. When heraldry started in the 14th century, the decorative elements followed a fixed sequence of (a) A center piece known as the Arms and consisting of a shield with a device and (b) Supporters in the form of Helmet, Mantling, Wreath, Crest and motto. The supporters can be in the form of human figures, animals or mythical creatures. Some examples of Emblems:-

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN THE FIELD OF GRAPHIC DESIGN

Think you have the passion, creativity, and eye for design needed for a career in Graphic design? Graphics designers are visual problem solvers who tackle tough challenges with creative thinking and strategic use of color, typography, imagery, and spacing. Working on many diverse, different types of graphic design projects from concept to completion, designers

Page 19: olagca.org  · Web viewMATHEMATICS (JSS3) ANGLES OF ELEVATION AND DEPRESSION. Concepts to Know: 1. Angle of Elevation: This is the angle above the normal eye-level (horizontal line).

may work in agencies or in a company’s marketing or creative department. With a variety of different types of graphic design specialties available, below are four of the most common areas.

1. Brand Identity and Logo DesignGraphic designers specializing in brand identity and logos envision, propose, and design fresh, powerful visual identities for new and existing brands, organizations, products, and services. Along with fonts and colors, logos are central to brand identity, requiring a unique selection and arrangement of colors, shapes, and designs that will be used to represent the brand nearly everywhere—from websites to company buildings to advertisements. When creating or updating a brand identity, designers may also produce business cards, letterhead, ads, and many other different types of graphic design outputs featuring the new brand identity.

2. Packaging DesignDesigners working in package design must have a passion for designing for 3D shapes, including the inside and outside of packaging. Their job is to create designs that protect the product in shipping, catch the eye of a consumer in a store, and then, when viewed up close, inform and persuade shoppers. This type of design not only involves initial sketches and computer work, but also testing your design on physical mockups to check every angle. An understanding of packaging materials and their environmental impact are other important aspects of this career.

3. Web and Mobile DesignDesigners may focus on either of these two different types of graphic design areas, as long as they know the standards and best practices of the medium for which they’re designing. In these roles, designers design the pages, layout, and graphics for apps or websites, working closely with developers to ensure the feasibility and proper functionality of their designs. They also help to plan a site’s or app’s navigation, structure, and user experience, creating continuity, order, and simplicity across all pages or screens. Knowing the basics of coding will help in this career. More specialized roles within web and mobile design include user experience design, user interface design, and information architecture.

4. Layout and Print DesignDesigners involved in layout and print design strive to find the perfect balance between text and graphics, creating designs that are both aesthetically pleasing and easy to read for magazines, books, newspapers, brochures, posters, and more. For layout and print graphic designers, the placement of imagery and the selection of font and typeface is of particular concern, especially when working with large amounts of text. Familiarity with printing processes and production is also essential for success in this career.

Are you looking for career involving design? Graphic design is all around us. It influences how we perceive the world using colors, photos, fonts, and illustrations. Take a moment to look at the design in the objects around you and you will see that someone put thought into making them both functional and appealing. There are many jobs within the graphic design field to choose from each requiring its own set of special skills. Careers with design can range from a

What exactly constitutes electoral fraud varies from country to country.

Forms of Electoral malpractices

The basic forms of Electoral malpractices are:

Deceitful manifestoes Bribery and corruption Use of thugs and intimidation Election rigging.

Deceitful manifestoes: Election malpractices begins with political parties and candidates printing and saying what they know they cannot do for the people after being elected. Their manifestoes deceive the votes on the basis of such promises.

Bribery and corruption: Candidates and parties, particularly those who are not sure of themselves and their party’s performance, offer financial inducement to voters and Electoral officials for special favours. Security agents are also offered such inducements.

The physical changes for females during puberty experience are marked by the following features of growth:

Physical Changes In Girls During Puberty:

Puberty in girls is marked by the start of the menstruation cycle, commonly referred to as periods. A major physical development is that of the breast that grows during the teenage years and attains full

growth by the age of 18 years. Hair growth in the pubic area and the armpits are also observed. The normal cycle of hair growth that is

seen in adults is reached by the average age of 14 years. The adolescent years are also marked by a rapid growth spurt. In girls this growth spurt starts at the age

of 11 or usually around the time she reaches menarche and slows down by the age of 16.

Physical Changes In Boys During Puberty:

The physical changes during puberty for males that occur are different in a number of ways. The developments that a boy undergoes during adolescence are:

There is a hair growth observed in the pubis area, armpits as well as the chest and the face. This usually starts around the age of 12; by the time the boy reaches 18 years of age, the pattern of hair growth resembles those of adults.

The growth spurt starts at about 13 years and continues on to about 18 years of age. After that, the growth slows down.

Another physical change that is observed in adolescent boys is the change in their voices. Their vocal cords grow and as a result, the voice pitch changes into a heavier tone.

Physical development and changes at such a sudden and fast rate is quite something for the adolescent kid to deal with. This is the time when the child is in constant need of support and care.
