Management of increased visitation during autumn

Autumn’s explosion of colour in Macedon and Mount Macedon has led to an increase in visitors in recent years and it is anticipated that this will continue in 2019.

Council is continuing to work with VicRoads, Victoria Police and the community to improve the management of the high visitation during this time, and create a safer and more enjoyable visitor experience, while minimising the impact to residents.

Feedback received in 2018 indicated that an increase in traffic management and communication regarding the management plan to residents and visitors was required and as such, this will be a focus of 2019.

Temporary measures

At this stage, we are planning to implement the following measures during April, however dates will be adjusted if required:

· Implementing a no stopping area along Honour Avenue and Waterfalls Road from 9am – 5pm for the duration of April

· Reducing the speed limit along Honour Avenue and Waterfalls Road to 40km per hour

· Directing traffic to Centennial Park as a dedicated car parking area

· Dedicated bus drop off and pick up areas

· Provision of a free shuttle service on weekends and public holidays

· An increase in traffic management at intersection of Honour Avenue and Mount Macedon Road on weekends and public holidays

· Increased servicing to public amenities and additional street bins and collections to prevent overflow

· Increased patrols by Council Local Laws Officers to enforce parking restrictions

· Communication with local residents and businesses, and the general public to advise of the temporary changed traffic conditions

· Visitor information marquee and community run food stalls in Centennial Park on weekends and public holidays to promote local business and assist with visitor dispersal to other attractions throughout the shire

· Promotion of other autumn attractions and events on visitmacedonranges.com
