In order to have more knowledge about what the Brakenhale students want in a school magazine, I decided to carry out a questionnaire asking 15 students as a target sample. The charts below are my findings and analysis and from this I will get my ideas for designing my own school magazine.

This chart tells us that there are more students who are interested in buying a Brakenhale School magazine. This means that designing a school magazine won’t be a waste of time as there are students who are willing to buy it.

From looking at this bar chart, we can see clearly that most people are willing to buy a magazine that only cost £1.00. This is a reasonable price because not all the students have the same allowance and this price is affordable for them to buy.

This bar chart shows us that the amount of time people would buy a magazine is only once a month. Again, this is reasonable because not all the students will be able to buy a magazine in a weekly basis. This will also allow time to gather more informations to talk about so the magazine will be constantly bringing something new.

Wemmy Carabuena

This tells us that bright colours are the most appealing colour scheme to the students. This was also my personal preference because it’s eye-catching and it will look more fun and interesting. Only one person gave a comment which suggested that it should be colourful.

This chart shows us that the B-Life is the most popular name for the magazine. However, I might consider using the name ‘Brakenmag’ instead. This is because it gave me an idea for my subtitles in the magazine which might include B-Life, Brakentertainment and Brakenews. This is appealing as it is not too formal and the plays of words are catchy.

This pie chart tells us that most people would be more interested in the magazine if there are a lot of pictures. I agree with the results as pictures make magazines more appealing and less dull. As the target audience are students, colourful and bright pictures would be more appealing for their eyes.

From looking at this chart, we can see that there are people who might be interested in joining competitions around the school. Only one person said ‘No’ but as the majority are interested I will include advertisements and informations about different competitions held in the school. This will be useful as the students will feel more part of the school and their achievements will be acknowledged.

This pie chart tells us that the Student Council is important as more students are interested on what’s going on. This led me to a decision that I will include a page specifically for the Student Council and informations about the current events.

This bar chart tells us that students would like to have a free item with the magazine. Only one person said ‘no’ and six people said that they don’t mind. I decided that I will include a free item with my magazine so that the students will be more interested in buying it.

10. What else do you think would make a good school magazine?The last question of my questionnaire was an open-ended question so that I will be able to find out different suggestions from the students. I gathered a lot of opinions such as including important days and exam dates in my magazine. Some people also suggested that I should include the student’s views and opinions so it will be more personalized to them. Fun games, updates around the school, world news, teen related articles and sport related informations are also some of the suggestions. The language used in the magazine is also important for the students so I will make sure that it’s easy to read and understand.
