Pastor’s Note

Dear Friends,

Recently our family did a Spring/Summer cleaning of our home. The goal was to get rid of anything outgrown, broken, or unused. I thought we would have a couple of bags to throw or give away. 20 bags later I learned just how wrong I was.

We had bags full of outgrown or torn clothes, broken toys, worthless VHS tapes because we don’t have a VHS player anymore, empty photo albums (remember those?!?) given to us on our wedding day that we just never used. It was amazing…and a little unnerving.

I wonder if the stuff of life sometimes just weighs us down. I wonder if sometimes we have too much stuff, too many appointments, too many task items to check off that it keeps us from being open to where God is leading and directing. “Don’t talk to me now God. I just need to check off two more items from this list and then I can listen.”

It reminds me of Hebrews 12, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

What is hindering you from fixing your eyes on Jesus? What is the stuff, that really isn’t all that important, that is slowing you down, diverting your attention, and preventing you from keeping the main thing the main thing? What are the calendar appointments that are causing you to slowly walk after Jesus instead of running? What sins are causing you to stumble instead of follow? In other words, what in your life just needs to be tossed?

Following Jesus – one burdened step at a time,

Pastor Jason

Children’s Ministry

Summer Sunday School

Summer Sunday School is here. Every summer we give our regular teachers a break and give people in our congregation the opportunity to serve and enjoy our amazing kids. The process is simple and involves very little preparation. This year we will be doing games. (bean bags, pool noodles, hula hoops, balloons, Tag, race, jump rope, rubber chicken, Frisbee, ball, parachute, hopscotch, bubbles, chalk) There are still available spots. Sign up is in the entryway.

Service Opportunity

We have officially adopted Adler Pierre as a Sunday School. Adler is 5 years old. He is from Haiti. He lives with his Mom and likes marbles and soccer. All the money from our donuts go to Adler. If you have thought about adopting a Compassion International child and just couldn’t afford it, this is a great opportunity. We can all pitch in to help Adler. Please pray for Adler and his Mom.

City Market Community Rewards

Last year so many of you signed up for City Market Community Rewards that Gracious Savior received close to $1,000! Thank you!

City Market is requiring everyone to choose their non-profit group to support every year. So if you could please re-enroll Gracious Savior as your group to support, that would be great.

Go to: www.citymarket.com . Click on the “Community” tab to re-enroll. You don’t need to re-enroll in the City Market Rewards Program. You just need to re-enroll Gracious Savior as your Community Organization. Thanks!
