5 Topic – The Battle of BosworthThis term, we are learning about how the power of the monarch changed during the reign of the Tudors. The monarch is the king or queen that rules the country. Who is our current monarch? How do we choose the next monarch? Think about that today, whilst we look at our first Tudor monarch – Henry VII

Look through the powerpoint to learn about the Battle of Bosworth. Then complete the colour coding activity to work out why Richard III lost.

Finally, create your own Battle of Bosworth boardgame that uses some of the facts that you’ve learned. (For example, Trampled by Knights – go back 3 spaces!)

1 English – To write a persuasive letter.Use what we have practised so far this week to write a persuasive letter from a concerned citizen to the Prince, trying to get him to do something about the fighting between the Montagues and Capulets. Hints: Think about what your character wants the Prince to do. Think about how your character might have been affected by the Montagues and Capulets.

2 Reading – Romeo and Juliet (Predictions)Make some predictions about what will happen in the play based on things that happen in this opening extract. Remember to explain your reasoning – if you predict that Romeo will end up fighting someone, remember to give some evidence for thinking that way.

3 Spelling – Ask someone at home to test you on your ‘prefix’ spellings for this week. Afterwards, identify any spellings that you need to practise more and use them to play a game of battleships with someone at home (if you need extra words, you could use the Y5/6 spelling list in your reading
