CLASS EXPECTATIONS PHYSICAL SCIENCE MRS. MACKEY 1. BE ON TIME Every student is expected to be in his/her seat when the bell rings. Anyone who comes in after the bell should have a pass from a teacher or the main office. 2. BE PREPARED You should have all your materials with you each time that you come to class. This includes your notebook, colored pencils in a pouch and something to write with. We will be using a calculator frequently in class, therefore, you will need to supply one (you will NOT be allowed to use the calculator app on your phone!). I will NOT be sending you to your locker to get any of these items. 3. NO EATING OR DRINKING! There will be no eating, drinking or selling of candy or any other types of food or beverages in my classroom. 4. BE RESPECTFUL I plan to treat each student with respect and common courtesy throughout the year. I expect that you will in turn treat all classmates and visitors to our room with common courtesy and respect as well. This includes listening when others are speaking, raising your hand to speak, and leaving others alone when they are working. 5. NOTEBOOK Every student is expected to keep a neat, well organized notebook. It will be graded each time you take a unit exam. The notebook should be kept in a 3-Ring binder (preferably D-Ring shaped), should have your name clearly displayed on it and should include the following CLEARLY LABELLED SECTIONS in the following order: A. Class Notes B. Vocabulary- This is NOT just a list of terms…each word must be defined! C. Concept Reviews- these will be worksheets that coincide with our textbook that I will pass out at the beginning of each unit.

CLASS EXPECTATIONSPHYSICAL SCIENCE

MRS. MACKEY1. BE ON TIME Every student is expected to be in his/her seat when the

bell rings.

The notebook should be kept in a 3-Ring binder (preferably D-Ring shaped), should have your name clearly displayed on it and should include the following CLEARLY LABELLED SECTIONS in the following order:

A. Class Notes B. Vocabulary- This is NOT just a list of terms…each word must be

defined!C. Concept Reviews- these will be worksheets that coincide with our

textbook that I will pass out at the beginning of each unit.D. Exam Review Guide- I will give you a review guide for every exam

that we will take this year. You are required to answer each question on notebook paper before you take the exam as an aid in your study process.

E. Classwork/Homework- any work done in or outside of class, as well as papers that are returned to you that do not get filed into any of the other sections of the binder should be put here.

F. Grade Record- This should be kept up to date so that you know what your grade is at any given time. Even though you have access to Progressbook, you are expected to keep an up to date grade record throughout the year.

G. In addition to the sections above, I expect to see this list of expectations and the safety rules displayed at the front of your

notebook as well as your pouch containing your colored pencils and calculator.

***Each section of your notebook should be very clearly marked. If I can’t find a section easily, I will not waste time looking for it when

I am grading and you will receive a 0 for it!!**

6. CELL PHONES There are to be NO CELL PHONES used during my class! If you bring a cell phone into class with you it MUST PLACE IT IN YOUR NUMBERED POCKET IN THE CELL PHONE CADDY LOCATED AT THE FRONT OF THE ROOM. They are NOT to be in pockets, purses, or bags. If I see a cell phone that is not on in the caddy you will be receiving a ZERO for all work assigned during that class period. Failure to follow any of these rules will result in a ZERO for all activities for that day. (TESTS AND QUIZZES INCLUDED).

7. ABSENCES When you return from an excused absence, it is your responsibility to see me for any missed work. I will not seek you out! For each day of excused absence, you will have 2 days to make up the work. In the case of an extended absence (4 or more days), you and I will decide upon a due date (which might not follow the “2 day rule”). If you are here the day a test or quiz is announced and then absent on the day it is given, you are expected to take it the day you return.

8. GRADING SCALE all grades will be calculated based on the following scale:

93.0% - 100% = A90.0% - 92.9% = A-87.0% - 89.9% = B+83.0% - 86.9% = B80.0% - 82.9% = B-77.0% - 79.9% = C+73.0% - 76.9% = C70.0% - 72.9% = C-67.0% - 69.9% = D+63.0% - 66.9% = D60.0% - 62.9% = D-59.0% and below = F

** I DO NOT ROUND UP**

9. LAB SAFETY In addition to the typical rules on behavior, I also stress to students the importance of safety in class. Laboratory activities are an important part of this science course. In order to conduct a safe, educational lab, students must be able to follow all directions and to

conduct themselves in a responsible manner. I do not tolerate horseplay or activities not assigned during a lab period.
