History

Thailand called their people a ‘Thai’ and holds many theories about their origin and race. One long believed theory was the Thai originated in the southern part of China, which is Yunnan, Kwangsi and Canton nowadays. After a great number of people migrated, The Thai people founded their kingdom over the central plain of the Chao Phraya basin. In that time the area was under sovereign of the Khmer Empire, the Thai migration period was called Nanchao (650-1250 A.D.). Thai people founded their independent state of Sukhothai around 1238 A.D. after King Sir Intaratit with his forces attacked ‘Kom Samad Klon LomPonk’ or Khmer and Mons to independence from their existing and program himself to be the king. SukhoThai, the first Thai capital state in a land of plenty governed by paternal and benevolent kings and the most famous was King Ramkamhaeng the Great who introduced the Thai alphabet. In 1350, the mightier state of Ayutthaya exerted its influence over Sukhothai and the city that approximately 150 years last was finally fall down.

commercial relations with western countries and the city once was well known as ‘The Center of International Trade of East’. In 1767, a Burmese succeeded in capturing Ayutthaya. But Seven months after the fall of, a young general named Phraya Taksin and his troops came back to the destroyed capital and free the Burmese occupation.

General Taksin, decided to established his new capital at Thon Buri on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, a site nearer to the sea which would facilitate foreign trade, ensure the procurement of arms, and make defense or withdrawl easier in case of a renewed Burmese attack. According to the lack of central authority since the fall of Ayutthaya led to the rapid disintegration of the kingdom, the Thon Buri Period last only 15 years (1767-1772). King Taksin's reign was well known as the reuniting period.

Climate The climate is tropical humidity with three seasons, hot (March to June), rainy (July to October), and cool (November to February). Temperature varies from 38° C to 19°C and average temperatures are about 29°C.

Bangkok is one of the most fascinating cities in the world. The city was founded as the capital of Thailand in 1782 by King Rama I of the present Chakri Dynasty. The King commanded to transfer the royal capital across the river from Thon Buri to Bangkok and build the Grand Palace at the area which is called ‘Rattanakosin’ island as the name of an Era. King Rama I named the new capital ‘Krung Thep’ or ‘City of Angel’ to reference to the ancient Ayutthaya Kingdom. Rama II (1809-1824) continued the restoration begun by his predecessor while Rama III (1824-1851) reopened relations with foreign nations, especially Western and developed trade with China. The city actually called ‘Old Bangkok’ until this reign. The modern Bangkok began in Rama IV Era, King Mongkut or Rama IV, (1851-1868) who was name by the Wesrtern "The King and I" concluded treaties with European countries and established modern Thailand to avoided colonialization. The King also made many social and economic reforms during his reign.

King Chulalongkorn, Rama V (1869-1910) was the first King of Thailand who visited foreign countries. He continued his father's tradition of reform.

The most important were abolishing slavery, improving the public welfare and administrative system. King Vajiravudh, Rama VI (1910-1925) reformed compulsory education and other educational reforms also were introduced by. ‘King Vajiravudhs’ college’or ‘Kings’ College’ the most famous boarding school in Thailand was built in this period too. Mai klang or mai song silk are threads of a continuous reeling process .When the filament from one cocoon is finished, it is replaced by another cocoon. After constant reeling, the reeler and adjust the size of the silk filament to medium or smooth with a few knots. Mai noi or yod mai, these kinds of silk remark as the most expensive type.
