Displaying Caring and Citizenship Following the Thanksgiving holiday, students will make stocking cap ornaments for family and the residents at the Clyde E. Lassen State Veterans’ Home. A Feast of Reading

On Tues., Nov. 21, second-grade teachers will provide students with a banquet of delicious books as the classes rotate from room-to-room and listen to selections read aloud. On the menu are Native American and Thanksgiving stories.

AR Updates

As of Nov. 16, the class has read a combined total of 763 books and 1,390,684 words, as shown by passed AR tests.

Communication and Organizational Tools (OTs)

Thank you for checking Class Dojo, the AVID planner/agenda, and the blue AVID folder for communications from school. Please remind your child to turn in notes, forms, and any other important papers from home right away each morning. This encourages each student to practice responsibility and organization.

Students have a challenge to meet their first personal AR goal by Dec. 21. As of today, Gabe, Savannah, Mary, Finn, Caroline, and Mallory are each past their first goal, and are moving on to second and even third goals!

Homework-Wk. of Nov. 27-Dec. 1 (with standards)

Social Studies, Math, and Reading: Students read their current Scholastic News, Holiday Rush Delivery, and complete the map skills on page 4. They choose at least two paragraphs to practice oral reading fluency 2-3 times during the week. The Scholastic News is due on Fri. (LAFS.2.2.RI.2.5, LAFS.2.RF.4.4, LAFS.2.RI.1.1, and LAFS.2.RI.1.2).

Writing: DUE Fri-Students respond to the writing topic provided in the nightly home journal. (LAFS.2.W.1.3).

As you child’s schedule permits: Practice math skills online in Prodigy and Khan Academy (includes operations and algebraic thinking, measurement and data, numbers and operations in base ten, and geometry).
