A Word From Teacher

Good morning everyone,

I hope you are all well and had a lovely weekend.

I know it’s getting that little bit harder now to keep working every day. But don’t give up, you are really doing so well.

Next week we will have a virtual school tour where you will visit a very special place on your computer. I’m really looking forward to that. There may be some clues in this week’s work about where we will visit!

We also have a Sport’s Day coming up in the next couple of week to complete safely in your home and garden.

I have set new challenges on Mangahigh for this week. Quick, quick, go and have a look!! Can you beat your classmates? Give each challenge a few tries.

Some more things to remember for this week:

We are back to our Oxford Readers this week Go to www.oxfordowl.co.uk and click on MyClass login at the top of the page.

Username: Tullydonnell Tigers

Password: MsKeegan ( with capital M and K)

Click on the age group tab and select readers through the week.

Go up or down the age group if reader is too difficult, too easy. Remember reading is not just about reading the words with fluency and expression, but most importantly it’s about comprehension ( reading for understanding) . Therefore question your child on what they have read before moving onto a new reader.

We are on week 2 of our new wordbox words for our final class story this week. Spellings included- to be practised each day by writing them down.

Ms. Lynch and Mrs. Hurson have asked me to inform you that there are extra supports available to all pupils in the Learning Support folders on the school website. There are KAHOOT! Quizzes here based on our English work. I have played them myself and they are so much fun!

Mangahigh, a maths site is up and running for everyone. Well done to all that have already signed up. I recommend anyone who has not signed up yet to do so. It is great fun! This will be our Maths Warm Up this week. You can find the link on the text from the school.

Ireland’s Fittest School-This is a new school fitness initiative that the children can get involved in and be in with a chance of winning 1000 euro worth of sport’s equipment for the school. Please go to the Active Schools tab on the school website for more information.

The videos for Ireland’s Fittest Family are posted on Youtube on Tuesday and Thursdays.

I hope all of your tasks go well for you this week. The answer sheet is available on the website to use daily.

Today’s task: On Grandparent’s Day in February many of us spent time with our Grandparents in the school hall. We asked them lots of questions.

Today I would like you to pick up the phone or make a Zoom or Skype call , with permission from your parents, and interview a grandparent or an older relative or neighbour.

1. Warm up: Mangahigh ( use the link from school text message if you have not yet registered) OR Mental Maths Book pg 59 Wednesday

2. Topic: Money

Yesterday you were counting amounts of money in the piggy bank. Did you count your own money too?

Today we will learn about writing euros and cents as cents.

So , if we have 1 euro and 20 cent we can write it as 100c + 20c

When we write amounts of money, the full euros are always on the left of the decimal point.

€ 1 . 34 So there is one full euro and 34 cents

Give these ones a try:

19

There are 100c in a euro

What does this 0 mean?

Yes, there are no full euros in this amount.

Page 20: €¦  · Web viewArt and PE. A Word From Teacher. Good morning everyone, I hope you are all well and had a lovely weekend. I know it’s getting that little bit harder now to keep

2. Topic: Money

Yesterday you learned how to write amounts as cents. We must remember that there are 100c in a euro. That will really help us.

Can you try this one? €1.56 = ______________c

Today we will go the other way. We will write amounts using the euro symbol.

If we have 15c do we have any full euro?

No.

So we will write 0 on the euro side of the decimal place. € 0.15

Now try these:

24

Look, I see one hundred in this number. That means there must be one full euro.100c = €1

If there are no full euros, we write 0 before the decimal point.

14c = € 0 . 14

4. Topic: Acrostic PoemsToday we are going to write an acrostic poem for a starfish. An acrostic poem spells a word down the side. Each line of the poem describes the word along the side. I have included a Powerpoint presentation all about acrostic poems on the website. Please have a look. Here is a video also to guide you further https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gVOeA7aqM0

Here are some more examples of some acrostic poems:

You will notice that acrostic poems can be about anything at all. Sometimes just one word is used for each letter and sometimes a full sentence is written.

The important thing is however, that whether you use just words or full sentences, they must be related to the main word along the side.

Friday June 12th Art

I have really enjoyed seeing so many of your art projects each week. You are all so creative and imaginative.

This week our Art topic is ‘Starfish’ . We have been listening to the wonderful story of ‘Starry Eyes Stan’ this week and learning lots of facts about starfish. We even wrote an acrostic poem about starfish. Let’s finish off the week by creating our very own footprint starfish!

You will need:

paint ( any colour)

sheets of paper

A marker or colours

A dish of soapy water ( to clean your foot!)

**You can either do all of your footprints on one large sheet of paper or you can do each footprint on individual sheets of paper, cut them out and stick them into position.

HAVE FUN: Remember if you would like to show off your amazing creation you can ask an adult to send a photo to the school email. [email protected]

IMPORTANT: PERMISSION MUST BE GIVEN IN THE EMAIL IF YOU WOULD LIKE THE PHOTO TO BE UPLOADED TO WEBSITE.

ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND. AMAZING JOB THIS WEEK. WELL DONE!!
