Prayers for the People

Prayer of Confession, Silent Prayers, and Pardon

Holy God, your Scriptures teach us that you are gracious, full of mercy, slow to anger, and radiant with unflinching love. The same Scriptures call us to imitate you. We confess we have not always been gracious or merciful. We are sometimes too quick to anger, and our love is lacking. Forgive us, we pray, in the name of Christ our Lord. Free our hearts to imitate you. Free our spirits to be more

Mission Emphasis for February – UMCOR for Puerto Rico Relief

This month, we will support UMCOR for Puerto Rico Relief. We have supported UMCOR national and international relief, including Puerto Rico, in the relatively recent past. However, due to the extensive hurricane damage and recent earthquakes, there is overwhelming need. Recent UMC mission trips were postponed because of the earthquakes. Hopefully, relief efforts will begin again soon.

To support this emphasis, make checks payable to “LUMC,” memo: “UMCOR.” Use your blue boxed or a yellow pew envelope. You may also give online through our website (www.lansdaleumc.org) or text LansdaleFirstUMC to 73256 to give your gift electronically.

Transfiguration Sunday

On this Transfiguration Sunday, the bulletin art on the front cover is by the contemporary Italian painter, Gori Daniele. Here is a quote from the painter himself about his work:

In this painting I represented the Transfiguration, giving a new look to Christ, more modern, relevant, contemporary, with the lineaments of a man with no nationality, who represents all men, citizens of the world.

Sermon Notes

The Mystery of the Transfiguration of Jesus was foreshadowed in Moses' trek up the mountain to be in the glorious presence of God and to receive God's law as recorded in the Book of Exodus. Following the Mystery of the Resurrection, the Apostle Peter bears witness to the one who will return in the glory of God's presence on earth in his Second Epistle. The reading from Matthew's Gospel brings Moses, Peter, and Jesus, together in the timeless mystery of God's word of approval upon the life, ministry, and sacrifice of Jesus, our Lord.
