Benefice Big summer read! It’s that time of the year when we join together in deepening our discipleship through a shared read. This year we are recommending two books to allow for choice - One is David Adam “the eye of the eagle” a book based around the hymn be thou my vision. The other is “have a little Faith” by Mitch Albom a true story of the authors encounter of faith. Both are easily available and would be a great springboard for chatting about our own faith.

Benefice WeekendSeptember 26th -27th…. please keep these dates free. Details of each event planned will be made available shortly……food fellowship and fun will be our recipe for meeting with one another and with God.I would like to thank you all for your support as I was ordained priest a couple of weeks ago. A big thank you to everyone for all your prayers, cards and good wishes. Thank you too to the benefice as a whole for the lovely gift of a home communion set. I am very grateful for all the encouragement you have given me. Thank you. Michelle.

Thought for this week…..by Rev. Michelle MartinWe have had a brilliant week at Holiday Bible Club this week, with lots of fun, games, stories, singing, creative prayer and refreshments. It has been so lovely to see so many people from different age groups, with different passions and interests and from

different schools coming together and having such a good time – and not just the children! The theme of the week was hands – reaching hands, sharing hands, caring hands and loving hands. One of the activities we did together was make a clay tile with our hand print on it. It was interesting to watch the children doing their clay tile – trying to smooth out the cracks and creases, putting so much of themselves into making something which reflected something of who they are,

Page 4: stjohnsfishponds.files.wordpress.com · Web view“Yet, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.” (Isaiah 64:8)Unlike

and how much they loved their finished product. “Yet, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.” (Isaiah 64:8)Unlike the clay tiles, we are not a finished product – we are continually being shaped and changed as we are held in the Potter’s hands. As the cracks are smoothed out and replaced with God’s own imprint, we begin to mirror something of the one who has created and loved us. God’s hands are holding hands – holding us in all things, never letting us go.
