Name: __________________________ Date: __________________ “Affairs of the Courtroom” Individual Multimedia Presentation Task : This week in AP Seminar, you will read a court case from colonial Venezuela (1595) of a man (Fernando de Medina) standing trial for the murder of his wife. An anthropologist from New York University only recently discovered the case in Venezuelan archives. The Spanish colonial government, however, either lost or destroyed the verdict of the case and the fate of Fernando de Media remains a mystery! This week you will read the case’s trial testimony and deliver a 4-minute individual multimedia presentation arguing the extent to which Fernando de Medina was guilty of his wife’s murder. Your presentation should use the trial testimony as direct evidence and include at least 2 slides (which can be composed of text or images). This does not include a title slide! Your presentation will be followed by 1 oral defense question. Tips for an Effective Presentation You must read the trial testimony in its entirety. You will not be able to effectively respond to the oral defense regarding counterarguments and evidence you chose to omit (or about direct evidence you omitted) if you do not read the testimony carefully. The slides (whether images or text) must enhance the overall presentation rather than serve as talking points. Slides should not be cluttered with excessive text or distracting images. Use the feedback you have received over the last several weeks from peers and from me to focus areas of attention to maximize your score on the public speaking rubric.
