When I left Mt. Airy, I went to college at UNC Charlotte to become a nurse because back then you were either a nurse, a secretary or a teacher.  Well after 3 years, I decided that I didn’t want to be around sick people all my life.   So I decided to go to Surry Community College to become a secretary.  Well, I couldn’t take shorthand.  And I knew that I didn’t want to be a teacher, because I would have killed all the students.   So finally I moved to Florida to work in my brother’s printing business.   Well, long story short, I wound up graduating from Salem College, working full time during the day and going to school at night with a BS in Business Administration and a specialty in Accounting and Economics.   I wound up as an Accountant.   I did that for 30 years and after being downsized, I moved to Hertford on the coast of NC to live with my sister-in-law’s aunt to take care of her.   I fell in love with Hertford and its people and even got the acting bug at our community theatre.  I was in six plays, mostly comedies.  And I am not moving back to Mt. Airy to be closer to family.

I remember in high school that Lynda Ashburn, Frances Craddock and I were like the three muscateers.  We used to ride around in my Austin Healey 3000 convertible and sometimes the police would follow us for miles hoping to catch us doing something wrong so they could stop us.   Also do you remember driving through the town cemetery at night with the lights off?  And does anyone remember the Winsome Singers?  We sang at talent shows although we never won.

Those were the days my friend!!!
