3. What level / career stage of training are you at?
Postgraduate scientist trainees include clinical scientist pre-reg, HSST, any bursary supported postgraduate or individuals who have acquired from NES a national training number as part of the postgraduate scientist cohort. Graduate-level / Practitioner trainees include preregistration clinical technologists, clinical physiology trainees, diploma-level decontamination trainees, or individuals who have acquired from NES a national training number as part of the practitioner cohort.

35. The Last Word! Please add any further comments about this survey or your training experience and ideas for improvement
Better communication between university organisers and NHS work based trainers. Communication is also bad between ourselves and the university contacts.I have really enjoyed my training so far and look forward to my specialism year. It is important to get people involved in training and make it a benefit to the department so the trainee has a purpose and use during their training. Our area of healthcare science has developed a trainee network which is fantastic for networking and contacting current and previous trainees to hear about their training experience and learn more about how to obtain professional registration. I would highly recommend trainee networks/communication in every field.Disappointment about failure of NES to provide support for a full course if it is more than 1 year in length. This lead to major difficulties in completing this course as a result and rather demoralising.
Otherwise NES been useful starting point for future ideas.
As this is my first year receiving funding from NES, I'm not sure how relevant this survey was for me
I have not yet had my annual review meeting as I started on the 23 October 2017.
The new knowledge and skills that I have learned from completing the first year of my MSc in Biomedical Science has been very useful for my personal development and progression within histopathology. This has been greatly facilitated by my workplace and colleagues.
It would have been helpful to get a guidance on the foundation year Portfolio prior to starting the Foundation year placements.
It has been great to feel like a useful and valued member of the team, however this may have been due to necessity of my involvement as I have essentially been covering an unfilled post. This can make it difficult to focus on all aspects of training rather than the specific area I am working in. In spite of this, being needed in the team is a good way to learn the processes quickly and understand fully what the job might feel like once I am qualified. As part of a small cohort of trainees within our discipline it has been hard to become part of the department and demonstrate any value. There is no real defined role for us which has both positive and negative aspects and has proved to be a very difficult part of our training.
