Interdisciplinary Learning Our theme for term 1 is Journeys. We will be using this as a framework for RME, Project work, Health & Wellbeing and Writing. In RME, we will look at religious pilgrimages across several world religions. Through project work, we will look at the journey of the Titanic, how it was built and the iconic story through the lens of social class. In Health & Wellbeing, we will participate in a range of activities which encourage us to describe our own interests and skills and appreciate others’ talents. In writing we will explore how author’s take readers on a journey by carefully planning interesting and structured stories. What I will be learning in P6 Term 1 2020-21 Successful Learner Effective Contributor Confident Individual Responsible Citizen Discrete Subjects Literacy - Grammar We will continue to explore the use of a range of punctuation for a variety of purposes. We will cover: commas, colons and semi colons, speech marks, apostrophes and contractions. We are also improving our vocabulary thought the use of imagery. Literacy - Reading We will focus on how authors use a range of techniques to engage the reader. We will cover: vocabulary, structure, tone and theme. Through our novel study we will improve our comprehension skills and discuss related real world topics. Literacy - Writing We will explore and develop our imaginative writing through applying taught grammatical concepts. We will consolidate our prior learning of tools for writing and refine our writing skills. Numeracy We will explore concepts in place value. We will cover, rounding, estimating, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will continue to consolidate our timestable facts and practise quick recall through mental maths. Maths We will focus on 2D shapes developing skills in identifying their properties and making accurate drawings. Throughout practical activities, we will develop skills in identifying 3d shapes, their properties and associated nets. PE We will focus on orienteering; developing mapping skills and scale drawings. We will also improve on endurance fitness and core stability by setting and evaluating our individual targets. French & German We will continue to develop our confidence in using both of these languages. In French we will cover: numbers to 100, revision of alphabet, birthday and dates. In German we will learn about the culture, geography and history. We will develop knowledge of colours, numbers and conversational skills. STEM We will cover processes of the planet through Rights Respecting Class Charter Through the United Nations Rights of the Child Convention, we will create a class charter agreeing our rights and actions as part of our behaviour policy ‘Better Relationships, Better Behaviour, Better Learning.’ Outdoor Learning We will have the opportunity to take our learning outdoors to improve our mental health, increase engagement and facilitate positive relationships. We will enjoy using a natural setting to develop skills in Numeracy, Literacy and Health and Well- being. 2m
