From this week, we will be emailing Year 4’s home learning packs on a Friday ready for the following Monday. Please continue to complete these in your own time over the week. MyMaths will continue to have new tasks set on a Monday. If your Y4 child is attending school, they will be completing similar work to the learning pack. Therefore, they do not need to complete the tasks in this pack if they are attending 5 days a week; however, if you want some work for home please complete the MyMaths tasks set. As our staff return to school, we are still continuing to answer any queries through emails sent to [email protected] and will try to respond to these as soon as possible. Please continue sending any pictures of work, achievements or your own projects to the email address or to @Y4HiStreet twitter. We love seeing what you have been up to. We look forward to spending more time in school with our Y4 Keyworker children and look ahead to the day when we can see

MathsThis week’s practical activities are about division!

Activity 1- https://login.mymaths.co.uk/login

Page 2: €¦  · Web view2020-06-05 · Haiku poems are centred around a small part of nature e.g. daisies, acorns, breeze etc. Today we are going to do some nature spotting to help us

Go to www.mymaths.co.uk/login and login at the top of the page with the school's username and password. On the next page you should enter your personal username and password in the My Portal box. In the homework you will see your set tasks! We hope we enjoy them. Don’t forget to rate the lesson at the end.

Activity 2- Lego Division https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=34&v=op-Qyt7Hm98&feature=emb_logo

Start with getting larger blocks and finding how many 1x2 blocks fit onto it. See if any other sized blocks fit on it. Write a division sentence to match it.

Challenge: Try to find the factors of a number. A factor is a number that divides equally into a number e.g. a factor of 10 is 2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M37XOjNdSQc

Activity 3- Egg divisionGet a number of sweets, counters, Lego pieces or something small. In an egg box, share the sweets out. Can you write a division sentence to match? E.g. 12 ÷ 4 = 4

Page 3: €¦  · Web view2020-06-05 · Haiku poems are centred around a small part of nature e.g. daisies, acorns, breeze etc. Today we are going to do some nature spotting to help us

Challenge: Can you work out what factors a number have? Remember a factor is a number that divides equally into a number e.g. a factor of 12 is 6.

Activity 4- Divide and conquer https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=73&v=ti58wdHJ8pA&feature=emb_logo 2+ people: Start with 4 cards each (you could use Uno cards or created cards). Each time pick up one card. Take it in turns to try and find pairs in your set of cards that will divide into each other. Discard these cards. The first person to have no cards left wins.

1 person: Play the same game but time how long it takes to end with no cards. Alternatively, you could count how many times you have to pick up.

Activity 5- Fluency Grid On the next page is a copy of our new fluency grid. We will be sending home numbers each week for you to add to the grid. The number goes in the place of the star. We will share further information on this separately. Here the number for this week:

150

EnglishWe are going to be learning about Hauki poems

Activity 1- What is a Haiku? (Monday)Have you ever heard of a Haiku? Haiku are an ancient Japanese form of poetry that follow certain rules. Traditional Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and last lines of a Haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables. The lines rarely rhyme. Here’s a video you could watch- https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/english-ks1-ks2-understanding-poetry/zfvkt39

Can you do a syllable count? How many syllables is your name or your family’s names?

Read the poem below. Illustrate it by drawing or painting pictures around it.

The falling flowerI saw drift back to

the branchWas a butterfly.

Arakida Moritake

Activity 2- What does a Haiku not do? (Tuesday)

Have a look at these new Haikus. What does a Haiku not do? Are they all the same? What are the poem’s themes? Remember to count the syllables!

Activity 3- Haiku Moment (Wednesday)

Haiku poems are centred around a small part of nature e.g. daisies,

acorns, breeze etc. Today we are going to do some nature spotting to help us think of ideas by making a viewfinder and looking at the small details outside through it.Challenge: When outside make drawings and notes to help you write your poem.

Here is a view finder made from card, but you could cut out a rectangle from a cereal box. You could also decorate your viewfinder. Alternatively, you could make some binoculars from recycled card. This will help you focus on just one area.Activity 4- Haiku Planning (Thursday)Draw a picture of what your Haiku is going to be about. This could be something you’ve seen in your view finder. Draft different word ideas/sentence ideas around the picture. Use the poems in activity 2 to help you. You may have to change words to get the right syllables. For example, this poem is about summer:

Activity 5- Writing Haiku. (Friday)Write your Haiku either on an origami structure or on a piece of paper with illustrations (pictures) around it. We can’t wait to see your different Haikus!

What would you change if you were a music producer? Can you have a go at writing your own lyrics to the song or make up your own song? If you have an instrument at home you could use this to play along, if not you can use the instrument you made a few weeks ago!We can’t wait to listen to your fantastic songs!

Share them with us @Y4HiStPrimary or email [email protected]
