Scenario – The Skeletal SystemYou are an apprentice at a publication firm in Manchester and are coming towards the end of your course. You have been working as part of a team on a GCSE Physical Education DVD. One section is in need of completion, ‘The Skeletal System’ and the deadline is fast approaching.

The person in charge has been taken ill and you have been set the task of gathering the information to include on the DVD. Having found a number of worksheets that will help with the information; the company thanks you for your hard work as they now have the information to put onto the DVD. You have been offered the chance to use this information as part of the DVD, which will go towards your final assessment in your apprenticeship.

How Bones GrowThe name for the growth and development of bones is OSSIFICATION. The process begins in the embryo and continues until the late teens. Bone is living tissue and is constantly being broken down and built up again.

Describe how bones grow, making sure that you include the following; osteoblasts, osteoclasts, epiphyseal plate and physiological zones of bone growth. (P1)
