WHAT’S HAPPENING @ PCC

We had two field-work days on 9th and 10th of July. Put up the shade structure, clean out the old stuff and tidy up the whole

place. Unfortunately, participation was not

overwhelming! Thank you to those who came out!

PRESIDENT'S CORNER Jeff Mate

The Summer Winds Keep Blowing In Across the Sea....

Thanks to your PCC Engineering Team (PCC IT), we have the opportunity to wake up, rub our eyes, sip some coffee and check if the fog-deck has lifted and the winds

cooperating at our Flying Field each morning. Thanks Guys.

The 2016 year is half over and I find myself sitting/hoteling 100 yards from the Pacific Ocean in Yachats Oregon with family and extended family for our Annual Forth of July gathering and participation in the crazy, zany, and always fun, Yachats Town Parade on the 4th. (check your local browser).

There is so much change going on in the world, the 4th of July gives us another opportunity to remember those that have paid the ultimate price to keep us safe, and moving forward as a nation. Safety is even more challenging here at home in the US and around the world as you are all aware by resent events. Be safe and hold your loved ones close always and during the holidays.

Change and Safety is the order of the day at the Field and within PCC operations. Greg Romine resigned his position as Club Treasurer, so I am acting as Treasure until we fill that Position. Mike Solaegui, along with the many PCC Hats he wears, has taken the Field Safety Position and has already started to get us back on track with many overlooked safety rules and AMA Regulations. keep us flying safe. Being a Sergeant at Arms and getting Pilots to change their ways is never easy, and never fun. When you see Mike, shake his hand and give him your thanks.

Open Positions: Treasurer Please consider this Position for the next six months. I have streamlined the accounting, put PCC Financial Books together for transparency reporting and instituted clean, efficient bill paying. Most of the Vendor Management/bill paying is done for the 2016 year. You just need to move the existing accounting processes forward for six months and report cash-flow and expenses at every meeting. If you can't make every meeting, you can submit the monthly accounting prior, in lieu of attendance. Please contact me with your interest/questions. Jeff 650-856-1102. Membership Coordination/Renewals The coordinator will be coordinating all existing and new member applications. We split this off from the Treasure's responsibility to give it focus and follow through. Other duties includes pick up applications and correspondence (checks) from our new P.O. Box in Half Moon Bay Post Office. He will contact new members and work with them to insure they have a Flight Orientation Day and a PCC Pilot to work with. He will coordinate with Brian Chan for club badging as well. PCC Flight/Field Orientation This was formerly the Flight Proficiency Officer. We need 3 to 4 regular attendees and Frequent Flyers at the field. This position would give new members an opportunity to get oriented to flying at PCC. Safety, Flight Skills Assessment and generally making new members feel welcome. Making new members feel welcome is what we see all the time at meetings and at the field, but having 3 to 4 members in rotation spreads out the responsibility. Please Contact Jeff 650-856-1102. Web Site As Matt Abrams would be the first to point out, the PCC Web Site has aged. It was written in a software language that is not used today and requires careful administration to manage, so as to not break it. If you have a background in WEB Design and Management, please join Matt and provide PCC with recommendations.

Seeing other RC Web Sites and the effective layouts and links that keep the members informed and engaged in the content is what we need to grow. A new PCC Web site should be very secure for application information

and PayPal. It should incorporate all PCC Operations for communicating as much content as is reasonable for that PCC Position. If you know of someone outside the club that can build and help manage a new site, please contact us. We will teach them to fly RC as well.

MEETING MINUTE Dennis Lowry

June 16, 2016

Call to Order: By Jeff Mate, PCC President. Raffle: A nice Bind and Fly from J&M Hobbies.

3

New Members: Joe Stephens saw the Hiller presentation and decided to come out and join the club. He has a foam trainer, electrics in his background, and valuable computer skills.

Membership Report: None was given, but the membership is now around 98. Treasury Report: None Given. Jeff reports that Greg has resigned as Treasurer. New Business: We need a new Treasurer. We need a Flight Proficiency Officer. We Need a Safety Officer. And we need a Membership Officer.

WORK PARTY is called for July 9 and 10 for all able bodies. Bring Gloves, Sunscreen, Hammers Rakes, Shovels, Pry Bars, Mallets, Tools, Strong Backs, and a willingness to work.

Maintenance: We have a Weed Wacker that works, a blower, and the shed needs emptying. The second mower should be repaired with a cost not to exceed about $200.00. We should put more crushed gravel in front of the container to make a ramp up into it. And we need a seamstress to sew the canopy for the shade. SAFETY: We’ve recently had an airplane crash onto Highway 1. PLEASE take every precaution to prevent this from happening. Jeff has spoken with the operator of the craft and gone over the potential danger to drivers on the highway as well as the possibility of our losing the club due to an incident of this sort. This operator has now been given the condition that he ONLY fly when an instructor is there to help him.

Jeff has also found evidence of alcoholic consumption on the premises. NOT ALLOWED. Consuming alcohol on premises is a dismissible offense. Also drinking alcohol and flying is against AMA Safety Regulation. A motion was brought and passed to ban all smoking from the premises.

Finally, in Safety: DO NOT discard spent lipo batteries at the field. They are a fire hazard, and fire is an imminent danger at our field. A wildfire started by our club would be as disastrous as a wreck on Highway 1. We need to be protectors of the environment.

OK, enough. Be safe, be moral. EVENTS: We are hosting a local church group of young people this Saturday, 6/18 to show them what we do and train them on buddy boxes. Bring your trainers and be prepared to explain how your airplane works, what you do to prepare it for flight, and what it takes to get started. Old Business:

Motion was brought and passed to offer Dan Duese an honorary membership as our liason to Hiller Aviation events. Hits and Misses: None.

Show and Tell:

Brian had an Old Timers’ “Go Getter”, Class Sp-400 with a speed-400 and a 2-cell lipo. He’s allowed a 3 minute run in this class, so the plane is built for economy and lift. I would guess that with three minutes run he can fly it for about 8 days before he is out of battery.

4

Mike had a 91” Zero. 39 feet divided by 91 inches is 5.14: One Fifth Scale. Wow. It has a three-piece wing so he can get it into his car. The retracts and tanks are in the center so he doesn’t have to disassemble that. He has a DW-85 up front for power. He got it from J&B Hobbies and seems happy with it. The servos are built into the elevator, and he has pull-pull rudder. It’s a very nice looking airplane.

Adjourned Minutes by Lowry.
