Additional Information There are some important changes from previous years to be aware of. This year we will have networking and a server to interact with. We will be providing Ethernet cables and a Wifi access point. However, in our experience with the rooms available for the contest, we highly recommend Ethernet over Wifi for better reliability. Scripting will play an increasing role in the contest this year, as it does in real projects across the industry. Teams will need to know how to consume and interact with REST API. This API will return JSON. We have added an additional publishing component this year. Teams will be expected to publish static pages to a server via FTP or SSH. Computers will need to have the tools and permissions to allow this. FileZilla is a free, open source, and cross-platform FTP GUI Client that is commonly used in the industry. (https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client) Advanced IDEs often have this capability as well. In past years, we often see a reliance on Dreamweaver tooling instead of an understanding the coding techniques. Though Dreamweaver has not been an industry accepted too for many years, we will continue to allow it, however, we would like you to consider some free, open source, and cross-platform alternatives:

• Visual Studio Code (https://code.visualstudio.com/) • Brackets (http://brackets.io/) • Atom (https://atom.io/)

We will allow the use of JavaScript and CSS frameworks, we expect a demonstrable understanding of the fundamental technology that these frameworks are built on. A continued advancement of core web technologies and ‘evergreen’ browsers’ ability to keep up to date with these advancements have greatly reduced the industry’s reliance on frameworks.
