When the web was in its early days, we didn’t know exactly what to show on a
computer screen
![Page 4: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
A company card?

A call to action?
![Page 6: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
A button ?
![Page 7: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
A shop?
![Page 8: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
We call this period web 1.0.
![Page 9: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Web 1.0 was all about our search for
online viability.
![Page 10: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
When we got a grip on the technical part, the real possibilities of the web became
more clear.
![Page 11: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
We discovered the power of networks.
![Page 12: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
The power of links
![Page 13: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
The power of collaboration
![Page 14: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
The power of content and reach
![Page 15: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
The power of friends
![Page 16: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
This is what we call web 2.0.
![Page 17: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Web 2.0 is all about the power of networks.
![Page 18: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Basically, web 2.0 is a social change. The
technical part of the web hasn’t changed very much.
![Page 19: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
But, web 3.0 will be driven by
technological changes.
![Page 20: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Web 3.0 - the semantic web - is about the meaning of data.
![Page 21: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
?
![Page 22: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
Suppose, I am a stamp collector...
![Page 23: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
Over the years I’ve collected a lot of stamps.
![Page 24: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
About every stamp, I made a document
![Page 25: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
That’s a lot of documents
![Page 26: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
But…
![Page 27: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
How will I find that specific stamp?
?
![Page 28: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)
Ah, of course !
![Page 29: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
This is the web we have today: a huge collection of documents
![Page 30: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)
The words of all those documents are indexed. We can search for
keywords.
![Page 31: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/31.jpg)
Now, suppose I search for all red stamps…
![Page 32: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/32.jpg)
What do I get ?
Red stampsStamps from Cambodia (Khmer Rouge)Stamps from the Red SeaStamps from the 140 th anniversary of the Red CrossStamps with red dragons
![Page 33: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/33.jpg)
Not very intelligent, but how can a
computer know what I mean?
![Page 34: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/34.jpg)
Answer: when we structurally describe that a stamp is a stamp and red is a color.
![Page 35: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/35.jpg)
Describing data in a structured way can best be done in a
database.
![Page 36: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/36.jpg)
Different databases can be connected.
![Page 37: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/37.jpg)
A database with stampsA database with countriesA database with coloursA database with stamp traders
![Page 38: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/38.jpg)
Web 3.0 creates a big collection of databases
which can be connected on demand.
![Page 39: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/39.jpg)
Agreements are made on the structure of data and the way data is described. Where the data is located is irrelevant. Linking data is the power of
web 3.0.
![Page 40: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/40.jpg)
So, “I want all the red stamps, designed in Europe, but used in the U.S.A., between 1980 and 1990” is a question that
will get a better answer with web 3.0.
![Page 41: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/41.jpg)
(Note)
![Page 42: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/42.jpg)
This definition of web 3.0 is a ‘narrow’ definition. Like web 2.0, web 3.0 stands for a range of developments.
![Page 43: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/43.jpg)
A broader definition of web 3.0:
A fast broadband connection to the internet, always and everywhere .
Open source techniques and free data (Data as a Service)
Open identities
Software as a Service (e.g. Google docs)
![Page 44: Web 30-explained-with-a-stamp](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061117/54584ae2af79594e128b4b27/html5/thumbnails/44.jpg)
