Issue 197 FRODSHAM COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER May 2016 Weaver Vale Group WI Spring Meeting Weaver Vale Group consists of seven local village WIs who meet up occasionally to enjoy listening to Speakers who may travel from as far as Yorkshire or Essex . Their next Event is be held on Wednesday 18th May 2016 in Frodsham Community Centre, at 7.30 p.m. with Guest Speaker, Tracy Martin with a presentation 'From Boot-Sale Princess to Collectables Queen'. Tickets are £5. Tracy Martin is a highly respected presenter and expert on 20th Century Collectables and Antiques. She has appeared on numerous T.V. and Radio Shows, such as 'Storage Hoarders', 'This Morning' and as a Table Valuer on 'Flog It'. Tracy is also an author and journalist, as well as being an Auction Room Valuer, and she is well known as a passionate, enthusiastic and humorous speaker. All guests will be given a warm welcome if they are able to join us for this event. Enquiries. The FC Association AGM is on the 22nd of June and we know that some of the elected officers would like to retire. Did you know that if we cannot find a new Treasurer there is no Association? It could be that serious. If you have an interest in accounting, maintenance, administration, fund- raising or can just turn up to help please consider joining the FCA Management Team and come to the AGM. Get ready to JUUUUUUMBLE! Saturday 4th June A Jumble Sale needs Jumble! Please could you donate any item in a reasonable condition to our sale? Clothes, bric-a-brac, pictures, toys, linen, china kitchenware, craft or small furniture? Please bring Jumbles to The Community Centre between 9am and 4pm from 28th May to 3rd June or we can collect. The Jumble Sale also needs some helpers to deliver flyers, sort jumble, and look after stalls amongst other things. To arrange collection, or offer your help, telephone The Centre on 01928 732222, Sue on 07971 907 669 or email [email protected] The eleventh Downhill Run will take place on the 3rd July from the top of Frodsham Hill to Castle Park. Pick up a form at The Centre or enter..online..at centre.frodcomm.org.uk If you don’t want to run you can still take part; help us marshal the route, hand out certificates or just cheer on the runners. Weaver Words With nearly 1000 tickets sold for 18 events staged over five days Weaver Words once again proved its popularity in the local area and with nearly 500 adults and children entering the two writing competitions, Frodsham and beyond should be proud of its literary talent. Judging by the feedback, we seem to have had lots of very happy customers. Congratulations and thanks are due to everyone who made it possible. New members all played a great part in making the 2016 event a success. New ideas, new enthusiasm and new contacts have all been a massive help in keeping the festival fresh and vibrant, but sadly Prof. Sue Zlosnik has decided to step down from her role as chair of the festival committee. She has presided over two festivals in this role and we will miss her very much. Her expertise, experience and contacts have been a key element in helping to put the festival on the map and ensure everyone took us seriously! Lynn Pegler Bar Staff Needed. The Centre Bar is one of the largest sources of income for FCA and that is mainly thanks to the volunteers who ‘do their duty’ when called on to ‘man the bar’. However we do need some new recruits to help out occasionally - and it’s quite desperate!
