(2) How do you know that weather occurs close to the Earth's surface?
(3)What causes the temperature changes that are a part of what is called weather?

WEATHER Bell #14:
(1) From which direction does our weather come most of the time?
(2) If air pressure is dropping in your area, what kind of weather is coming?

WEATHER Bell #1 Answer:
Click here to return to today’s bell.
(1) Weather is the state of the atmosphere at a given time and place. (Yes! This IS from a textbook!)
(2) Because I live on the surface!
(3) How the sun heats different parts of our planet in different ways so some part are hot and some parts are cold.
WEATHER Bell #2 Answer:
Click here to return to today’s bell.
(1) Nitrogen
(2) Oxygen
(3) Nitrogen is used by living organisms to produce things like protein. Nitrogen plays an important role for life.
(4) Oxygen is essential for all living animal organisms on the planet. We need it to breathe!

(1) & (2) Thermosphere - where weather occurs Stratosphere - where Ozone is present Mesosphere - where meteorites burn up Thermosphere - where unmanned spacecraft orbit the Earth
(3) I live in the Troposphere.
WEATHER Bell #3 Answer:
Click here to return to today’s bell.
(1) Hot air rises because is is less dense than the air around it.
(2) Cold air sinks because it is more dense than the air around it.
(3) The Convection Currents in our atmosphere circulate the heat from the sun around the planet Earth.

(1) Weather is the state of the atmosphere at a given time and place. If it’s raining, I have to grab an umbrella. If it’s really hot outside, I wear shorts and sandals.
(2) Look out the window! Check the forecast on the radio or TV.
(3) Meteorologists observe temperature, air pressure, precipitation, wind speed and direction, etc.
WEATHER Bell #5 Answer:

(1) Radiation, Conduction, and Convection.
(2) Radiation if your room is heated by radiators and it’s cold outside. Convection above your head as your body heat heats the air above you. ETC.
(3) This answer will change from school to school, state to state, season to season!

(1) Cold Fronts bring heavy rain in violent thunderstorms.
(2) Warm Fronts bring slow, steady rain.
(3) The are both attached to a Low Pressure System.
WEATHER Bell #8 Answer:
(1) Ozone is a form of oxygen with 3 Oxygen atoms.
(2) Ozone can hurt us because in the Troposphere it can cause damage to our lungs.
(3) Ozone can help us because in the Stratosphere it protects us from ultraviolet radiation from the Sun.
