Windshield ExpertsHow weather affects Windshield?
How cracks form mysteriously without being struck?
•Do you take your car’s windshield for granted?
•Most drivers don’t give their windshields a second thought until a crack appears
•While it’s understandable that a windshield might crack when struck by a rock, flying debris, or some other impact, some cracks, known as stress cracks, suddenly appear for no apparent reason
•What are they? How do they form? And can they be repaired?
What are stress cracks?
One of the most common causes of stress cracks is due to extreme changes in temperature. For example, if it’s an extremely hot day, washing the car with cold water could trigger a stress crack.
Protecting windshield during extreme temperatures?
Similarly, its extremely chilly outside and using hot water to melt an icy windshield can cause a crack in the windshield.
Protecting your windshield: During Summers
Running you’re A/C on high will create a temperature difference between the temperature of the interior and exterior of the windshield. This will have a negative impact on the integrity of the windshield. It is recommended that the driver should gradually increase the setting of the air conditioner instead of turning it on high immediately.
Protecting your windshield: During Winters
You can purchase a car blanket which is similar to a sun shade you use during the summer.
It fits around the outside of your car, then in the morning you just pull it off and none of the ice or snow is stuck to your windshield
Accidents and damages to your car do happen, but there are steps that can be taken to avoid any future problems to your windshield. Taking these precautionary measures can help your windshield last longer.
