Over the river, and through the woods,To Grandmother’s house we go;
The horse knows the way,To carry the sleigh,

As over the ground we go.
This story was inspired by this song:
Author Lydia Maria Child wrote a poem called “The New-England Boy’s Song about Thanksgiving Day.” It was published in 1844. Eventually, the poem became a song, though some of the words were changed. The poem told about visiting Grandfather’s house!
