    SECTION 1

    All-Season Shawl

    Materials:

    For spring/summer: 2 balls of Aunt Lydias Denim or any

    worsted weight yarn

    For fall/winter: About 18-24 oz. soft worsted weight

    acrylic or chenille

    Crochet hook size H

    Gaugeis not important. You can adjust the finished size by

    adding or subtracting pattern rows.

    My finished sizeusing the Denim is about 65" across the top

    and 35" from the bottom tip to the center of the top.

    Shawl

    Starting at the bottom point of the shawl, ch 2.

    Row 1:(Sc, dc, sc) in the 2nd ch from hook; ch 1, turn. (3 sts)

    Row 2:(Hdc, dc) in the first sc, sc in the next dc, (dc, hdc) in

    the last sc; ch 1, turn. (5 sts)

    Row 3:(Hdc, dc) in the first hdc, (sc in each dc and dc in

    each sc) across, (dc, hdc) in the last hdc; ch 1, turn. (7 sts)

    Guys Cap & Scarf Set

    Materials for cap:

    About 3 ounces worsted weight yarn (I used Red HeartGray

    Heather)

    Crochet hook size H or size needed to achieve gauge

    Yarn needle

    Materials for scarf:

    About 6 ounces worsted weight yarn

    Crochet hook size I or size needed to achieve gauge

    CapOne size fits most adults.

    Gauge:Rounds 1-3 = about 3 1/4

    To work dc dec:Yo, insert hook in the first indicated st and

    pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook, yo, insert

    hook in the next indicated st and pull up a loop, yo and pull

    through 2 loops on hook, yo and pull through all 3 remaining

    loops on hook.

    Ch 5, join with a sl st in the first ch to form a ring.

    Round 1:Ch 3 to count as the first dc, work 7 more dc in the

    Thread yarn needle with yarn tail. Fold the inner hat band in-

    side the hat and loosely baste the top of row 19 to the bottom

    of row 18.

    Cap peak

    Holding 2 strands of yarn together, ch 11.

    Row 1:Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch

    across; ch 1, turn. (10 sc)

    Row 2:2 sc in the first sc, sc in each of the next 8 sc, 2 sc in

    the last sc; ch 1, turn. (12 sc)

    Row 8 (edging worked around 3 sides of the peak):Sc

    Turn the cap upside down. Place the center of the peak overthe center of a panel formed between 2 fpdcs. Sl st the un-

    edged side of the peak (row 7) to the coordinating sl sts on

    round 20 of the hat. Fasten off. Tack the peak to the cap with

    one stitch at the red dot. Weave in ends.

    ScarfFinished size:About 7 1/2 wide x 78 long, including fringe.

    Gauge:Rows 1-3 = about 7 1/2 x 2 1/4

    Pattern note:The ch 2, turn at the end of each row does

    not count as the first dc of the next row.

    Stout fringe (front side of scarf):Sl st in the 2nd ch from

    Materials:

    Worsted weight acrylic yarn in 3 colors

    Color A - 4 ounces Color B - 2 ounces

    Color C - 1 ounce

    (A stiffer yarn, like Red Heart, works best for this project.)

    Crochet hooks size: F for small

    G for size medium

    H for large I for X-large

    AssemblySew or crochet together three hexagons as shown below, then

    sew or crochet together the two sides marked with an X to

    form the back seam. Pin the toe of the 3 joined hexagons to

    the center of one short end of the 9 1/2 rectangle, then pin

    the bottom of the back seam to the other short end of the

    same rectangle. Sew or crochet the rectangle to the three

    joined hexagons all the way around. Fasten off. Weave in

    Sock Sparklers

    Materials:

    A few yards of white/gold Knit Cro-Sheen

    Crochet hook size 4 (1.75 mm)White cotton socks

    Turn sock inside out. Attach thread with a sc at the heel end of

    the cuff of the sock.

    Round 1:Work any multiple of 4 sc (counting the joining sc

    as 1 sc) evenly around the cuff of the sock; join with a sl st inthe first sc.

    Round 2:Ch 1, sc in the same st as joining, ch 1, skip next sc,

    3 dc in the next sc, ch 1, skip next sc, (sc in the next sc, ch 1,

    skip next sc, 3 dc in the next sc, ch 1, skip next sc) around; join

    with a sl st in the first sc. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

    Soft Sock Edgings Materials:DMC Craft Thread (one 10 yd. skein for each sock)

    Steel crochet hook size 4 (1.75 mm)

    Cuffed cotton socks. (Alternate thread: size 10 crochet cot-

    ton thread)

    Pattern note:Ribbed cuffs work best. The ribs in the

    cuffs serve as a stitch guide for evenly spaced stitches.

    Red Socks With White EdgingTurn sock inside out. Attach thread to hook with a slip knot.Round 1:Attach thread with a sc to the heel side of the sock

    cuff, ch 1, (sc, ch 1) an even number of times around; join with

    a sl st in the first sc. Round 2:Sl st in the next ch-1 sp, (ch 3, sl st in the next ch-1

    sp) around, ch 1; join with a hdc in the first sl st to form the

    Worsted weight yarn. I used a little more than one ballof

    Aunt Lydias Denim. You can also use ww cotton (Im not sureof the amount, so Id work from a cone). Acrylic isnt recom-

    mended for this project, but can be used in a pinch.

    Crochet hook size HAdditional optional materials:

    About 1 yd. of cotton lining fabric

    Large snap set

    Iron

    Needle and matching threadGauge: Not important for this project

    Pattern note:The ch 3 at the end of each row counts as

    AssemblyIron each crocheted piece to block. If youd like to line your

    tote, lay the crocheted pieces on the fabric, trace around them,

    add seam allowance and cut out. Sew the lining together to fit

    the bag and turn inside out. Sl st row 16 of one of the bag

    pieces to 130 stitches of row 5 of the handle, then continue

    working sl sts in the remaining 90 handle sts; join with a sl st

    to the first sl st; fasten off. Sl st row 16 of the other bag piece

    to 130 stitches of the free loops of the foundation ch of the han-

    dle, then continue working sl sts in the remaining 90 handle

    sts; join with a sl st to the first sl st; fasten off. Weave in ends.

    Insert optional lining into bag, and whip st to handle and bag

    opening. If desired, sew each half of the snap to the inside of

    bag, behind the beginning ring.

    Three Triangle Babushkas

    Materials for each scarf:

    1 ball of LusterSheen (or other sport weight yarn)

    Crochet hook size G (if you crochet loosely you might wantto use a smaller hook)

    Step 1

    Arrange pieces as shown, with the safety pins on the top right

    of each piece. (The "wrong" sides of the sc rows and the

    "right" sides of the dc rows should be facing up. With yarn nee-

    dle and yarn, and starting at the safety pin ends, sew the first

    27 stitches of piece B to the first 27 foundation chain bases of

    piece A by using a running stitch under both loops of the

    stitches and under the single loops of the foundation chain

    bases. Sew the first 27 stitches of piece C to the first 27 founda-

    tion chain bases of piece B. Sew the first 27 stitches of piece D

    to the first 27 foundation chain bases of piece C. Sew the first

    20 stitches of piece E to the first 20 foundation chain bases of

    piece D.

    Step 2

    With yarn needle and yarn, and starting at the end opposite

    the safety pins, sew the first 27 stitches of piece B to the first

    27 foundation chain bases of piece A by using a running stitch

    under both loops of the stitches and under the single loops of

    the foundation chain bases. Sew the first 27 stitches of piece C

    to the first 27 foundation chain bases of piece B. Sew the first

    27 stitches of piece D to the first 27 foundation chain bases of

    at the wrist end of piece A, sew side seam of glove together,

    then run the needle through the sl st's at A. Continue sewingdown piece A to close that finger, then sew up piece B. Run

    the needle through the sl st's at B. Continue sewing down

    piece B to close that finger, then sew up piece C. Run the nee-

    dle through the sl st's at C. Continue sewing down piece C to

    close that finger, then sew up piece D. Run the needle through

    the sl st's at D. Continue sewing down piece D to close that fin-
