We Would See JesusJohn 12:20-26

Acts 17:4And some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a great many of the devout Greeks

Matthew 10:5-6These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

John 12:36-37When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them. Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him

John 2:4-5And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

John 7:30So they were seeking to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.

John 7:39 Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

John 8:20These words he spoke in the treasury, as he taught in the temple; but no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.

John 12:16His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him.

John 12:23And Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.

John 13:1Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.

John 17:1When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you

2 Corinthians 4:6For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

BarrettHere John does not represent Jesus in direct conversation with the Greeks; this however is not careless writing, for the rest of the chapter winds up the ministry of Jesus to the Jews in order that the true and spiritual ‘conversation’ of Jesus with the Greeks may begin – on the other side of the crucifixion.

MorrisThe gospel is a gospel for the whole world only because of the cross.

Revelation 5:9-10And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”

2 Corinthians 5:21For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

SimeonHis death perfectly satisfied all the demands of law and justice, so that “God may be just and yet the justifier of all who believe in Jesus.” View the death of Christ in this light, and say whether his crown of thorns were not his brightest diadem; and the cross on which he expired, his most glorious throne? Men indeed saw nothing but shame in his crucifixion; but God and angels beheld it replete with glory.

Investing in Yourself is the Destruction of Self

Luke 12:15-19And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear…

Luke 12:15-19down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.” ’

Depreciation of Self is the Preservation of Self

Luke 18:4For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.

Romans 8:17 …and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

Acts 20:24But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

Acts 21:13For I am ready not only to be imprisoned but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

Galatians 6:14But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
