Problem Solving Technique
Definition:
The Process of Problem Solving
Open Your Subconscious
.Aproblem is a puzzle, that requires logical thought or mathematics to solve
What is Problem solving ? The act of defining a problem; determining its cause; identifying, prioritizing and selecting
alternatives for a solution; and implementing that solution.
It is widely recognized that problem-solving is a creative process which largely defies systematization and
mechanization.
Success in solving any problem is only possible after we have made the effort to understand the problem.
Why should we limit our problem solving skills to conscious techniques only if, researchers say, our subconscious
mind works 200 million times faster? Unlock our inner genius! Our conscious is only a small fraction of the
subconscious, and the conscious has only a small fraction of information that is available to the subconscious. What
we need is just to tune our subconscious mind into relevant cues by focusing on a specific problem and opening our
subconscious. If you do so, relevant information, insights and solutions will suddenly come to you seemingly from out
of nowhere.
“One should never impose one's views on a problem; one should rather study it, and in time a solution will reveal itself,”
advised by Albert Einstein. Cultivate burning desire to solve the problem you face. Visualize inspiring and joyful
problem-free future. Analyze the problem for a short time, brainstorm some solutions but don’t finalize any. What you
need to do is just to start the ball rolling, and then let your subconscious mind take over the task. Shelve the problem
for a day or two, even if you think you can already see a solution. Don’t think about it – it should not weigh on your
conscious mind.Although you are not consciously thinking about the problem, your subconscious is working on it, and
will amaze you by a simple and elegant solution that is nearly impossible to produce deliberately using a linear, logical
thought process. Trust your intuition. Intuition is how you gain answers from the subconscious and gain insight on how
to solve your problems. Write any flashes of inspiration down, and then later evaluate how you can use them to solve a
complex problem. If a few days pass without an insightful solution announcing itself, start thinking about the problem
again. but try to define it in a better way this time, so it becomes easier to solve.
Close your eyes and silence your mind. Letting your subconscious work on a problem in a relaxing environment can
be very effective. Your subconscious is very open while you relax, meditate or are asleep. You are also most prone to
receiving insights when you are taking a bath, or staring at the sea, or doing something physical rather than cerebral.
Just be positive, use positive affirmations – especially in the morning and shortly before you go to sleep at night – to
install new beliefs.
Awaken and Unleash the Full Power of Your Sub-conscious Mind

s: Innovative Initiative by Waste Management Team
at IBPO building site, Infosys, Jaipur, Delhi Region
Preface:
Overview of the project:
A. General arrangement
In general, construction sites have long been identified aslarge contributor to urban runoff pollution as properpollution prevention practices are invariably not followed.Materials washed into the storm drain have a direct impacton local waterways and habitat living in that environment. The most common discharge into our storm drains fromconcrete construction is the residue and contaminantsfrom washing down equipments such as concrete trucks, pumps, mixers, chutes, hand tools and wheelbarrows. Italso comes from other cementitious type products such asgrout, mortar and stucco. Concrete or cementitiouswashout wastewater is caustic and considered to becorrosive with a pH near 12, essentially the same asAmmonia or other household cleaning detergents. Theprimary ingredient of ready mixed concrete is Portlandcement, which consists of Portland Cement Clinker,Calcium Sulphate, Calcium and Magnesium Oxide, metalsand trace elements of potassium and sodium sulphatecompounds, chromium compounds and nickelcompounds.
Theoretically 150 litres of water is required to wash onetransit mixer and therefore around 6.5 lac litres of water willbe used only for washing transit mixers. Concrete washwater is basically slurry consisting of fine Portland Cementparticles in water also called suspended solids when inwater.
Therefore, disposal of the wash water from transit mixers isa big challenge and to be dealt with at sites with propercare.
In our project viz., construction of IBPO building for Infosys,Jaipur, the following are the proposed concrete quantitieswhich will be procured from outside using concrete mixers
• For PCC - 797 Cum • ForRCC – 19916 Cum
To save mother Earth the following initiative has been takenby CCCL at Jaipur, to reuse wash water from transit mixerswhich will be followed during the tenure of the project.
Sedimentation / Filtration process to reuse wash waterfrom transit mixer:
A. General arrangement
B. Description of tanks and process
C. Reuse after processing
D. Conclusion
The process is natural and simple one. There are fourtanks viz.,
1. Primary settling tank
2. Secondary settling tank
3. Filtration unit
4. Filtered water storage unit
Fig. showing all four tanks
Fig. showing the delivery of wash water into the
primary settling tank.
B. Description of tanks and process.
1. Primary settling tank (PST)
Wash water from TM is directly delivered into this tankand is allowed to settle naturally. Once the tank isfilled, the water will over flow to the next tank i.e., to thesecondary settling tank.
2. Secondary settling tank (SST)
Water from PST is collected and is again allowed tosettle naturally. Once this tank is filled the water willfurther over flow to the next tank i.e., Filtration unit.
Fig. showing the settling of wash water in
secondary settling tank.
3. Filtration unit
This unit has a filter bed which consists of the following;
• 100mm depth of fine aggregate (Sand bed) as toplayer,

C. Reuse after processing.
D. Conclusion
As the result of the filtration process we get twocomponents as below;
1. Settled particles from PST
2. Filtered water from storage tank.
The above are reused in the following manner,
a. Settled particles from PST are collected and may beused for making of small pots, blocks, paper weightsetc.,
b. Filtered water which will be used for curing, horticulture, sprinkling on roads to contain dust etc.,
The trial was made successfully at site and theresultant components were observed as below.
1. Settled particles from PST were collected in pansand were used in the civil works for temporaryconstruction at site.
• 75mm depth of 12 to 20mm coarse aggregate asmiddle layer,
• 75mm depth of 40 to 50mm coarse aggregate asbottom layer..
Water from SST gets collected and is allowed to getfiltered through the above filter bed naturally. Thisfiltered water collected at the bottom of the unit isallowed to flow into the next tank i.e., filtered washwater storage unit.
A wire mesh is provided at the mouth of the outlet pipeleading to storage unit which will protect the flow ofsand particles from the filter bed into the storage unit.

One person dies and in his celestial journey, finds there are two gates. One gate leads to heaven and other gate leadsto hell. There is a guard in front of each gate, guarding it. One guard always tells the truth and the other guard alwayslies. The person can ask only one question to one of the guards and based on the answer he can continue his journey. What question the person has to ask a guard to find the door to heaven?
"If I asked the other guard which door leads to heaven, what would he tell me?"
The door that the guard shows will be the one that leads to hell, so the person will know the other one leads to heaven.
This is because if the person asked the guard who tells the truth this question, he will tell the truth in that the otherguard will lie and will show the person the door to hell. If the person asked the guard that always lies, he will lie byshowing the person the door to hell, because the other guard would have shown the person the door to heaven.
