As we honor our dead this week-end at Mass ---and throughout the month of November in our daily prayers----below are some quotes to aid in our reflection.

Death is not the opposite of life, but a part of it. Haruki Murakam

Our dead are never dead to us, until we have forgotten them. George Eliot

He who is not busy being born is busy dying. Bob Dylan

Tell your friend that in his death, a part of you dies and goes with him. Wherever he goes, you also go. He will not be alone. Jiddu Krishnamurti

It matters not how a man dies, but how he lives. The act of dying is not of importance, it lasts so short a time. Samuel Johnson

Death commences too early – almost before you’re half-acquainted with life – you meet the other. Tennessee Williams

There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquent-ly than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love. Washington Irving

Mourner's Kaddish (English translation)

Glorified and sanctified be God's great name throughout the world which He has created according to His will. May He

establish His kingdom in your lifetime and during your days, and within the life of the entire House of Israel, speedily and soon; and say, Amen. May His great name be blessed forever and to all eternity. Blessed and praised, glorified and exalted, extolled and honored, adored and lauded be the name of the Holy One, blessed be He, beyond all the blessings and hymns, praises and consolations that are ever spoken in the world; and say, Amen. May there be abundant peace from heaven, and life, for us and for all Israel; and say, Amen. He who creates peace in His celestial heights, may He create peace for us and for all Israel; and say, Amen.

from Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America (Having read the translation of the Kaddish Prayer, one should realize that, although Jewish Law requires that the Kaddish be recited during the first 11 months following the death of a loved one by prescribed mourners, and on each anniversary of the death (the "Yahrtzeit"), and by custom in the State of Israel by all Jews on the Tenth of Tevet ("Yom HaKaddish HaKlali"), there is no reference, no word even, about death in the prayer.)

Prayer for the Dead and the Living We give them back to you, O Lord, who first gave them to us, And as you did not lose them in giving, so we do not lose them in the return. Not as the world gives do you give, O lover of souls! For what is yours is ours also, if we belong to you. Life is unending because love is undying, and boundaries of this mortal life are but a horizon and a horizon is but the limit of our sight. Lift us up, strong Son of God, that we may see further! Strengthen us in faith, that we may see beyond the horizon. And while you prepare a place for us, as you have always promised, prepare us also for that happy place, that where you are we may be also, with those we have loved, forever.

(continued)

Neither fire nor wind, birth nor death can erase our good deeds. Buddha

Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation. Rumi

But suppose the search for meaning is in itself mean-ingful. Suppose that is part of the game, part of why we're here. Could we be here to search for some-thing? If the answer is yes, then death impels that search. As I have struggled with the mystery of my death, seeking the meaning of this life, I have found what I'm looking for. It is very simple. We are here to learn. Everything that happens to us helps our learning. And nothing helps us to learn more than death.

Further Along the Road Less Traveled - M. Scott Peck

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Visits to the Adoration Chapel require one simple task… just to sit quietly and just “be” in the Presence of God. Think of a visit to the Blessed Sacrament as coming to see your Best Friend. Give Him your troubles, He will give you peace . Give Him your sorrows, He will give you joy. Give Him your heart, He will give you life eternal. Give Him an hour of prayer or a few minutes of your time and you will leave anxiously awaiting your next visit with Jesus Christ, our God and our Friend!

All are welcome!

A Family Perspective In a family, children are taught to be respectful if they want to be respected, to share, if they want their fair share and to listen if they want to be heard. Family life rescues us from arrogance by teaching us to love others as we love ourselves. Bud Ozar

LEFT-OVER HALLOWEEN CANDY Halloween is over and you may not want that left over can-dy in your home. Those are lots of extra calories that would be better served given to a college student who is studying for finals or a service person who deserves some good snacks! As always, at the end of November we will be filling Care Packages for our college and service parish-ioners. We will have labelled bins at the 4 doors of the church the next couple of weekends. Please mark your ex-tra bags of candy “Candy for Care Packages!” We will make sure they get put to a good use! Please watch the bul-letin in the next couple of weeks as we will be asking for donations to fill the care packages with other items. Thanks again for always supporting this great program.
