Ten years ago, before you were born, there were two buildings in New York City.

Most people called them the “Twin Towers” because they stood side by side, like twins, like brothers.

At one time, these were the tallest buildings in the world, reaching high above the clouds.

•You could see these towers from almost every place in New York City. You could see them from the river.

You could see them from the Statue of Liberty.

You could see them from the parks where families played.

At night, the towers were bright and you could see them from everywhere in town.

Many people worked in the towers.

But on September 11, 2001, people who had different beliefs than ours, wanted to destroy America. They crashed passenger airplanes into the Twin Towers.

You could see the smoke for miles as the towers burned.

Firemen to the rescue.Firemen went into the towers to help rescue the people inside.

Amongst the ruble, firemen raised the American flag.

But soon, we will have the Freedom Towers.
