• Bright Start Academy O’Fallon family-style dining comes with family jobs, and that’s what we make sure the children in our centre understand.

• Children set the table, getting our dining area ready for everyone to come in and eat.

• Food is served “family-style” in bowls and on plates and children serve themselves, taking an appropriate portion size before passing the bowl on to the next child.

• They learn turn-taking, patience, and manners as they wait their turn for the food, using words such as “please” and “thank you”.

Taking the time out to share in a meal together benefits every individual of the family, as well as bringing everyone together as a family unit; developing relationships, opening up communication, and helping instill social skills necessary in life.
