St Ignatius Loyola Parish August 14, 2016
Twenty First Sunday in Ordinary Time August 21, 2016
Theme: Following Jesus calls us to r isk and not al-
ways take the easy road.
Breaking Open the Word: Suggested text for faith sharing: Gospel Lk 13:22-30
Jesus passed through towns and villages, teaching as
he went and making his way to Jerusalem. Someone
asked him, “Lord, will only a few people be saved?”
He answered them, “Strive to enter through the narrow
gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will
not be strong enough. After the master of the house has
arisen and locked the door, then will you stand outside
knocking and saying, ‘Lord, open the door for us.’He
will say to you in reply, ‘I do not know where you are
from. And you will say, ‘We ate and drank in your com-
pany and you taught in our streets.’ Then he will say to
you, ‘I do not know where you are from. Depart from
me, all you evildoers!’ And there will be wailing and
grinding of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, and
Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God and
you yourselves cast out. And people will come from the
east and the west and from the north and the south
and will recline at table in the kingdom of God. For
behold, some are last who will be first, and some are
first who will be last.”
Step Two: Look into Your Life
Step One: Listen to the Word
When you hear the reading today, what word or phrase
caught your ear? What really struck you in today's read-
ing?
Question for Children: How do you show that you are
a follower of Jesus?
Question for Youth: Jesus tells us that being His disci-
ple will be very hard. Of all the things that Jesus tells us
about the way that we are to live our lives, what is the
hardest thing for you to do? Why?
Question for Adults: As you wrestle with today's Gos-
pel, what signs do you see in your own life that you are
"with God.”

19th Sunday in Ordinary Time
PROPAGATION OF THE FAITH THANK YOU We just received a beautiful thank you letter from Marist Brother James McKnight, FMS. He was here to
speak about the Missions during the weekend for July 16 & 17. He wanted me to extend his gratitude to all
of our parishioners. He said “you were great!” He felt the enthusiasm at our Masses with music and prayer.
He was particularly impressed by the various cultures who come here to worship each week from Central &
South America, India & Vietnam.
THE LIFE CENTER Recently, every pastor received a letter from Bishop Murphy informing us of our Diocese expanding its fa-
cilities to help pregnant mothers and unborn children. The Bishop has also decided that any future fund-
raising that takes place for all pro- life activities be used to benefit the programs of our parishes and our Di-
ocese. That means that the baby bottle program that each parish sponsors, including St. Ignatius Loyola,
will no longer support the Life Center of Long Island. As a result, I share with you a letter (see following
page) that was sent by Gloria Schreiber the Executive Director and our parishioner, to all Life Center mem-
bers.
May God bless you and Mary keep you and your families. May we remember to always do things for the
greater glory of God. In the year of the 125th Anniversary of our Church, St. Ignatius Loyola, pray for us!
Summer is flying by and September- believe it
or not-is just around the corner. Children will be
back in school before you know it. Many of our
families cannot afford school supplies, so we are
asking if the following can be donated: Marble
composition notebooks (please, NO SPIRAL
NOTEBOOKS we have too many already)
loose leaf paper and loose leaf binders; colored
pocket folders; colored markers and highlight-
ers; dry-erase markers; colored pencils
(washable and permanent); 3”x5” ruled index
cards; 3”x 3” post-it notes; glue sticks; crayons,
pens, pencils and pink erasers; rulers and scis-
sors; back-packs, pencil cases, supply boxes and
book covers. Thanks in advance for your partic-
ipation!

Boletín: 116
EL EVANGELIO DE ESTA SEMANA NO ES FÁCIL DE IN-TERPRETAR. MUCHOS VERÁN QUE EL EVANGELISTA NOS PRESENTA A UN JESÚS, CONFLICTIVO, PERO EN
REALIDAD JESÚS LO QUE HACE ES DAR UN DESPERTAR A NUESTRO CORAZÓN ADORMILADO, DESPERTARNOS
DEL LETARGO EN EL QUE ESTAMOS. HOY MÁS QUE NUNCA SE NOS LLAMA A ALZAR NUESTRA VOZ CONTRA LAS INJUSTICIAS SOCIALES, PERO SEGUIMOS COMO NA-DA, MIENTRAS NO NOS TOQUEN A NOSOTROS, ENTON-CES ESTALLAMOS Y QUEREMOS QUE TODOS NOS APO-YEN Y SE PONGAN EN NUESTROS ZAPATOS. TENEMOS
QUE DEJAR DE MIRAR HACIA ABAJO.
ES MOMENTO DE REFLEXIONAR, AHONDAR EN LA PA-LABRA DE DIOS Y EMPEZAR A TRABAJAR POR TODA LA HUMANIDAD, ¡QUÉ MEJOR EJEMPLO DE AMOR, JUSTI-CIA Y CARIDAD! NO DEJEMOS PARA MAÑANA EL TRA-
BAJAR POR EL REINO DE DIOS, HAGÁMOSLO HOY.

PRAY FOR OUR MILITARY
Anyone with a family member serving in the military,
please forward their name and rank to our bulletin editor
at [email protected] or bring the name to our Rec-
tory Front Office. We pray to give all of our soldiers the
courage and strength to do the duty that is required of
them. May they always remember our appreciation for
the sacrifice they are making for us. We are thankful
for the men and women who are willing to risk their
lives to protect our freedom. I ask You to go with each
of them and protect them wherever they go. Amen.
