Arrival Activitiesn Welcome TimeSUPPLIES: name tags (p. 8), tape or safety pins, marker

• Use Cuddles the Lamb to help you greet each child by name and with a warm smile.

• Tape or pin a name tag to each child’s clothing.• Say: Today we’re going to learn that Jesus loves us.• Place Cuddles out of sight so the children won’t be distracted by him

during the next activity.

n Option 1: Beanbag Bull’s-EyeSUPPLIES: paper plates, red marker or crayon, beanbags, tape

Color bright red hearts in the center of three paper plates. Tape the plates to the floor in a triangular pattern with six inches between plates. Let children take turns tossing beanbags onto the hearts.

When someone hits the bull’s-eye, have that child say, “I love Jesus!” Tell the children they’ll learn that Jesus loves us and that we love Jesus, too.

n Option 2: Praise PompomsSUPPLIES: tissue or crepe paper, scissors, wooden clothespins, tape

Before class, cut 6-inch streamers of colorful tissue or crepe paper. Hand each child a wooden clothespin. Let children choose five or six streamers, and help them tape the streamers to the top of their clothespins. Be sure to tape the end of each streamer securely to the clothespin. As children work, remind them that Jesus loves us. Tell them that they can wave their colorful pompoms and tell Jesus we love him, too. Allow time for children to wave their pompoms in the air and listen to the rustling sounds.

n Pick-Up Time SUPPLIES: CD player

As Arrival Activities draw to a close, gently mention that it will soon be time to clean up. Encourage children to help you pick up things in the room as you lead them in singing “Let’s Pick Up All Our Things.” Use the CD (track 2), and sing the song to the tune of “Looby Loo.”

Let’s pick up all our things.Let’s pick up all our things.Let’s pick up all our thingsAnd put them all away.

Everyone here can help.Everyone here can help.Everyone here can help.Let’s put it all away.

Let’s pick up all our things.Let’s pick up all our things.Let’s pick up all our things. It’s time to stop our play.

To make a beanbag in a snap, pour dried pinto beans or peas into a child’s sock and knot the sock at the ankle.

Be sure to make a pompom for every child in class. The pompoms will be used later.

After pick-up time, accompany the children to the story area. Have the adults in the room join the children in the story area to show the children that this is an important time.

If you wish to provide soothing background music as the children arrive, play a CD of your choice. Music helps calm reluctant children and helps them become at ease with their surroundings.

Bible!

n Bible Story: Jesus Loves UsSUPPLIES: paper cups, milk, tissues, dark crayon

Before class begins, please check to make sure the sensory items are still attached securely so the children can touch them without danger of pulling the items off or putting them into their mouths.

Panel 1Before class, use the dark crayon to make a scribble on the self-

adhesive plastic covering on Panel 1.Set paper cups, milk, and tissues beside you. Fold back the

StoryBoard so children see only Panel 1. Say: We’re going to learn today about how much Jesus loves us. Point to Panel 1.

Ask: • Who do you see in this picture? (A boy.)Say: Little boys and girls are children, and Jesus loves children. Once

Jesus was teaching lots of mommies and daddies and children about God. Jesus’ helpers thought the children bothered Jesus, and they wanted the children to go away. But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me.” Jesus loves us, and Jesus loves all children.

• What happened in this picture? (The boy spilled his milk; he wrote on the wall.)

• How does the boy feel? (Sad; not happy.)Say: The little boy feels sad, but guess who loves him? Jesus loves the

little boy even when he does something wrong. It’s OK to make mistakes because we know that Jesus loves us.

Lesson 13

Page 5: We Love Jesus, Too • Lesson 13 Bible Point Jesus loves ...storage.cloversites.com/communitybiblechurch4/documents/2s less… · We Love Jesus, Too • Lesson 13 Jesus loves us.

Let children come to the StoryBoard in pairs. Have one child make a mark on the self-adhesive plastic covering with the dark crayon. Then help the child’s partner wipe away the mark and say, “Jesus loves you.”

When all the children are again seated, hand out paper cups containing a small sip of cold milk. Let the children drink their milk.

Ask: • How did that taste? (Cold; good; like milk.)• What if we spilled the milk? (We’d make a mess; we’d get in trouble; uh-oh!)• Who would love us if we spilled the milk? (Jesus; God; Mommy and Daddy.)Pour a few drops of milk in another paper cup. Have children come to the

StoryBoard in the same pairs as before. Help the partner who wiped the crayon away earlier to pour a drop or two of milk on the StoryBoard wall. Have the child’s partner wipe the milk away with a tissue and say, “Jesus loves you.” Place another few drops of milk in the cup as the next pair participates.

When you’re finished, say: It’s good that Jesus loves us, no matter what we do. And do you know something? I love Jesus, too!

Panel 2Unfold Panel 2.Say: I like this picture! The little girl looks happy even in

her sleep. Let’s pretend we’re getting ready for bed. Can you help me? First, we’ll brush our teeth. Make brushing motions. That’s good. Now let’s smile and see those shiny teeth. Good for you! We need to wash our hands and face next. Make motions as if you’re washing. Wash one hand…and

the other hand…now our faces. Ooo, scrub those cheeks! Don’t forget your nose and behind your ears, too. Pause. Now we’ll pat our faces dry on the towel. Gently pat your cheeks. I feel so much cleaner. Are we ready for bed? Climb in and pull up the covers. Pause for children to imitate your actions. Wait! I forgot something! Jump up, and encourage children to follow you. Bend over and say: Here’s my teddy bear. Give your teddy bear a big bear hug. Pause. Climb in bed. Pull up the covers. Pause for children to follow you. Wait! I forgot something else! Jump up, and have children follow you. We almost forgot to say our prayers and tell Jesus we love him. Fold your hands and kneel. Pray: Dear Jesus, we love you. Amen. Now climb into bed and pull up the covers. Lie on the floor and whisper: Good night.

After 10 seconds, ask the children to quietly sit up. Say: We know that Jesus loves us. We love Jesus, too. We can tell Jesus we love him in our prayers. Now let’s tell the girl in the picture “good night.” Allow children to come to the StoryBoard in pairs. Have them pat the teddy bear and cup their hands around the night light to see it glow in the dark.

After everyone has had a turn, say: We’ve been learning that Jesus loves us. It’s important to tell Jesus that we love him, too. One way to tell him is through our prayers. Let’s say a bedtime prayer with the little girl. Pray: Dear God, thank you that Jesus is our friend. Amen.

Panel 3Unfold Panel 3. Ask: • What happened to the boy? (He fell off his tricycle;

he’s hurt; he’s sad.)Say: If we’re hurt, we want someone who loves us

nearby.Ask: • Who loves this little boy when he’s sad? happy?

hurt? (Jesus!)Say: Jesus loves us all the time. Jesus loves us when we’re happy or

sad. We can share Jesus’ love with the boy by helping him. Hand two children each a bandage. Try to choose two children who haven’t put bandages on the boy yet. Hand a third child the fabric patch to attach.

Jesus loves us all the time, no matter how we feel. We love Jesus, too. We can tell Jesus we love him by helping others just as we helped the little boy. We can also tell Jesus we love him by singing him a song. Let’s sing Jesus a happy song now.

n The Happy SongSUPPLIES: heart-shaped stickers, CD player

Before class, gather enough heart stickers so that every child in class can have one. Remove the gift box from the Learning Lab. Place the stickers inside the box.

Using the CD (track 10), lead the children in singing and acting out “The Happy Song” to the tune of “The Farmer in the Dell.”

I see a bird. (Flap arms.)I see a tree. (Hold arms out at sides.)I see Jesus’ love today. (Hug yourself.)I’m happy he loves me. (Point to yourself.)

I see the sun (make an arm circle over your head)As bright as bright can be. (Hold your arms over your head and wiggle your

fingers.)I see Jesus’ love today. (Hug yourself.)I’m happy he loves me. (Point to yourself.)

I see a flower. (Spread hands outward from bottom of palms.)I see a bee. (Hold your palms together and zoom them upward.)I see Jesus’ love today. (Hug yourself.)I’m happy he loves me. (Point to yourself.)

Say: Thanks for that singing! We’ve had so much fun learning that Jesus loves us! Jesus is a special friend. Hold up the gift box. Ask: • How does it feel when somebody gives you a present? (Good; I like

it; special.)

Important: Put the StoryBoard away and out of reach of children.

Lesson 13

Page 7: We Love Jesus, Too • Lesson 13 Bible Point Jesus loves ...storage.cloversites.com/communitybiblechurch4/documents/2s less… · We Love Jesus, Too • Lesson 13 Jesus loves us.

• Why do people give each other presents? (Because they love each other; because it’s their birthdays; because they think they’re special.)

Say: I know it makes me feel pretty special when somebody gives me a present. Giving someone a present is one way to let people know you love that person. One way we know that God loves us is because of the special gift he gave us. Do you know what that gift is? Allow children to respond. Yes, Jesus! Jesus is a special gift. Let’s practice giving each other a special gift right now—the gift of love!

Explain that you’ll play some music. While the music plays, children can dance around the room in the way that you tell them to. Say that when you stop the music, someone will get a special surprise.

Begin playing a song from the CD. Give children directions as to what action they can do as they dance. Some suggestions are stomping their feet, waving their arms like trees in the wind, hopping up and down, skipping, and touching the floor. Then stop the music and select a child to receive a sticker. Place the sticker somewhere visible on the child, saying, “Jesus loves you, and I love you, too!” Then give the child a big hug.

Begin the music again, and give the children a new action to do as they dance. Then stop the music and give a different child a sticker and a hug. Repeat the process until you’ve given every child a sticker and a hug. Turn off the music and have children sit in a circle on the floor.

Ask: • How did it make you feel to get a sticker and a hug? (Good; special; happy.)

• Why did God give us the special gift of Jesus? (Because he loves us.)

Say: Jesus is a special gift from God. When we believe in Jesus, he’ll be our very best friend here on earth. And then we can live with him forever. Let’s say a big “thank you” to Jesus! Lead children in shouting “thank you” to Jesus. Now let’s see what Cuddles knows about Jesus’ love!

Bible Activitiesn Interactive Bible Bulletin BoardSUPPLIES: heart patterns from p. 174, red construction paper, scissors, tape

Before class, photocopy the heart patterns onto red construction paper. Cut out one heart for each child and one for Cuddles. Tape a heart to Cuddles’ leg.

Have Cuddles hug each child. Then say: Giving hugs is a good way to show our love. And singing songs is another way. Let’s sing a song about how much we love Jesus.

n Sing It OutSUPPLIES: CD player

(Point to yourself.)

n Bible CraftSUPPLIES: construction paper, scissors, heart patterns (p. 174), red paper, black marker, stickers, chenille wires, tape

Before class, cut a 2x18-inch strip of construction paper for each child. Photocopy and cut out a red heart for each child, using the patterns at the end of this lesson. With a black marker, write “I love Jesus” on each heart.

Set stickers, chenille wires, tape, and the paper strips and hearts on a table. Let each child decorate one side of his or her paper strip with stickers. As children work, tell them what the hearts say. Help children bend the chenille wires in half. Tape the hearts to the bent part of the wires. Tape the other ends of the chenille wires in the center of the paper strips.

Place the paper strips around the children’s heads, and tape the ends of the headbands together as you adjust the headbands to fit. As headbands are placed on their heads, ask the children who they love and who loves them all the time. Remind them that Jesus loves us. Say: Your headbands look so great. They tell everyone we love Jesus, too! Let’s wear our headbands to play a game.

Bring out Cuddles the Lamb. Go through the following script; then put Cuddles out of sight.

Teacher: Hello, Cuddles. What do you have?

Cuddles: You’ll have to guess. It’s red, and it means love.

Teacher: Children, can you guess what Cuddles has? (A heart.)

Cuddles: You’re all very smart. Here’s another riddle. Who loves us all the time? Encourage children to say “Jesus loves us.”

Teacher: That’s right. Jesus loves us all the time, no matter what. And we’ve been learning today that we love Jesus, too! We love Jesus all the time. Would you like to help us with our bulletin board, Cuddles?

Cuddles: Oh, yes, I would. I like to help.

Have Cuddles hand each child a heart cutout. Help children tape hearts on the bulletin board. Each time a child places a heart, have him or her say, “I love you, Jesus.”

Teacher: Seeing all those happy children around Jesus makes me want to hug someone. May I hug you, Cuddles?

Cuddles: Sure! Here’s a big hug. Do you think any of the children would like a hug, too? I have lots more hugs to give.
