Dear Friends,

Below is a letter from Archbishop Chaput on the 2015 Catholic Charities Appeal. You can find pledge cards on the table in the narthex.

Saint Joseph, Pray for Us!

Monsignor McLoone, Pastor Monsignor McLoone, Pastor Monsignor McLoone, Pastor Monsignor McLoone, Pastor

Dear Friends,

May has traditionally been Catholic Charities Appeal month here in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. This weekend, I ask you to once again reflect on the importance of sharing your blessings with the least fortunate among us.

“If we love one another, God remains in us, and his love is brought to perfection in us” (1 John 4:12). What better way to live our Faith than showing love to those most in need? This weekend gives us the opportunity to come together as parish communities to support the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s single most important fundraising initiative, the Catholic Charities Appeal. To learn more, please visit www.catholiccharitiesappeal.org.

On May 16 & 17, I ask you to prayerfully consider a gift to the 2015 Catholic Charities Appeal. If you have already shown your support, please accept my heartfelt appreciation. Together we can make sure there is a place at the table for those who have nowhere else to go. For all you have done for the Catholic Charities Appeal in the past, I offer my deepest gratitude. You clearly see the challenges that so many of our brothers and sisters face every day, and you can choose to extend yourselves to better their lives. I encourage you to support the Catholic Charities Appeal, motivated by love, to Give Hope to those who need it most.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap.Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap.Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap.Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. Archbishop of PhiladelphiaArchbishop of PhiladelphiaArchbishop of PhiladelphiaArchbishop of Philadelphia

World Meeting of

Families

September 2015 www.worldmeeting2015.org

World Meeting of Families Prayer

God and Father of us all, in Jesus, your Son and our Savior, you have made us your sons and daughters in the family of the Church.

May your grace and love help our families in every part of the world be united to one another in fidelity to the Gospel.

May the example of the Holy Family, with the aid of your Holy Spirit, guide all families, especially those most troubled, to be homes of communion and prayer and to always seek your truth and live in your love.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.Amen.Amen.Amen. Jesus, Mary and JosephJesus, Mary and JosephJesus, Mary and JosephJesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us!pray for us!pray for us!pray for us!

World Meeting of Families Monthly Theme

There will be a different theme each month leading up to the

World Meeting of Families (September 2015) based on the

10 chapters of the Preparatory Catechesis “Love is Our

Mission: The Family Fully Alive.”

May’s Theme is Light in a Dark World At its best, the family is a school of love, justice, compassion, forgiveness, mutual respect, patience and humility in the midst of a world darkened by the selfishness and conflict. In these ways, the family teaches what it means to be human. However, many temptations arise which try to coax us into forgetting that male and female are created for covenant and communion. For example, poverty, affluence, pornography, contraception, philosophical and other intellectual mistakes can all create contexts that challenge or threaten healthy family life. The Church resists these things for the sake of protecting the family.

Become a Volunteer! More than 10,000 volunteers are needed to help with the World Meeting of Families and the Papal Visit. Go to the website to learn more about volunteer opportunities.

Host a Family! Thousands will visit for this international event from September 22-27. You can open your home and host a family or an individual. Open your home and host a family! It is easy to sign up online.

Learn more at WorldMeeting2015.org or email host@WorldMeeting2015.

Before he ascended into heaven, Jesus instructed his

disciples to proclaim the Gospel to all of creation. As

stewards of this legacy, we too are called to give witness to

the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our words and actions; in how

we live and how we treat others.

Are we sharing the life of Christ with others in our day-to-

day lives? In what ways do we see ourselves proclaiming

the Gospel? In what ways can we do better?

Life after Prep = Youth Outreach at St. Joseph Parish

Question:

After Confirmation, Prep is over. Does that mean my parish offers nothing for my child in the area of religious formation & service opportunities? NO

What is Youth Outreach? An opportunity for children and families to grow in their Catholic Faith and live a more intentional faith-filled life by engaging the Head, Hands & Heart through different religious formation & volunteer service opportunities throughout the year.

What do you do? Basic overview: For example during our weekly gatherings there is a solid Catholic teaching/reflection w/ life applicable, group discussion, and an activity – whether a game, team building exercise or sport. My advice would be Come & See.

When do you meet? Twice on Tuesdays following the same schedule as Prep. 5:00 – 6:15 p.m. & 6:45 – 8:00 p.m.

Do you meet during the summer? Since we will be following the Prep calendar will not meet weekly during the summer but we will offer fun youth gatherings for 7th & 8th graders over the summer. Emails are sent out and a Sign up Genius link for each gathering ensures that at least 12 youth are present. This age group typically doesn’t like to stand out and so it’s important to have other youth present for gatherings. The more the merrier!

How do I get involved? Email or call me and let me know you want to be placed on the email list if you are not already. Outside of email there is really no easy way for me to effectively correspond with so many families. A summer schedule will be posted on our webpage and in next week’s bulletin.

“Young people of every continent, do not be afraid to be

the saints of the new millennium! Be contemplative, love

prayer; be coherent with your faith and generous in the

service of your brothers and sisters, be active members of

the Church and builders of peace. To succeed in this

demanding project of life, continue to listen to His Word,

draw strength from the Sacraments, especially the

Eucharist and Penance. The Lord wants you to be intrepid

apostles of his Gospel and builders of a new humanity.” St.

John Paul II.
