and building equipment behavior.
Construction and structural healthmonitoring systems (SHMS)
Construction monitoring systems monitor deformations in the soil and structure
to ensure a safe and efficient construction process. Structural health monitoring
systems obtain structural parameters from measurements and allow for optimal
and efficient maintenance and safe operation of structures.
SODIS LAB designs, supplies, installs, commissions and maintains construction
and structural health monitoring systems for high-rise buildings, residential
complexes, business centers, stadiums, tunnels, bridges and many other engineering
projects. SODIS LAB is a member of the International Society for Structural Health
Monitoring of Intelligent Infrastructure (ISHMII), the world’s leading organization
for SHMS.
Patented, research-based methods and techniques are used in combination
with specially designed software to identify issues in real-time. Many projects
have benefited from the construction monitoring and many are still benefiting
from their permanent structural health monitoring system.
SODIS Building M Family (SBM)
The program is distributed as part of the structural
monitoring service SODIS LAB provides
and is capable of:
1. Collecting, storing, processing and analysing
sensor and equipment data to determine
the technical condition of the structure
2. Special processor rules for controlled variables
and measurements to determine and identify
critical situations and their locations
3. Management of the structural monitoring
system (sensor locations and data)
4. Integration with traffic control systems
and emergency services (in case of extreme
situations)
5. Visualization of all sensors, critical structural
elements and warnings in a building
information model (BIM)
The program has an automated workplace manager
with which an operator can immediately identify
the current state of the structure, identify issues
and decide on further actions.
Each Building M application is tailored
to the structure under monitoring
by the SODIS LAB team according
to the requirements for the structural
monitoring system.
St. Petersburg’s flood protection barrier includes a closing system and a highway tunnel underneath
the Baltic Sea. SODIS LAB designed, installed and commissioned the tunnel’s monitoring system
and engineering systems such as camera surveillance.
Building equipment monitoring systems(BEMS)
A building equipment monitoring system keeps track of all incoming information
from individual components in a building, from power systems to elevators
to security systems. A single software solution for the operator displays
the warnings of each system so direct action can be undertaken.
A BEMS can be seen as an enterprise asset management system
with maintenance functionality. SODIS LAB integrates all systems into a building
information model (BIM), which is used throughout the building operation.
Not only all systems are listed in this model, the model is also used to display
localized warnings and errors of systems requiring maintenance.
Using the team’s design and installation expertise, patented and research-
based monitoring algorithms hundreds of projects such as high-rise buildings,
residential complexes and business centres are already benefiting from this
system.
The Building Equipment Monitoring System developed by SODIS LAB is capable
of detecting:
• Outbreak of fire
• Irregularities in MEP systems
• Failure of equipment (elevators, pumps, transformers, security systems,
etc.)
• Unauthorized entry and other security issues
• Hazardous chemical, biological and explosive gas-air mixtures
SODIS Building SMIS Family
The managing application for the building
equipment monitoring system is able to receive,
store, maintain and manage all data related to
the building’s infrastructure.
The program is able to:
1. Monitor the life support & safety systems
2. Monitor the condition of the building
equipment
3. Recognize threatening situations and
recommend actions
4. Issue alerts, including automatic messages
to emergency services (for example in case
of fire)
The program has an automated workplace manager
with which an operator can immediately identify
the current state of the building services, identify
issues and decide on further actions.
Each building is set up differently and therefore each
Building SMIS application is tailored to the structure
under monitoring. The SODIS LAB team sets up each
application according to the requirements
for equipment monitoring.
Office complex “SkyLight” in Moscow. SODIS LAB designed its structural monitoring system (2008)
and designed, installed and commissioned the building equipment monitoring system,
including Building SMIS software (2012).
Anti-terrorism and structural analysis
SODIS LAB has developed advanced methods and algorithms for the evaluation
of terrorist threats to a building based on structural models and drawings.
Recommendations are given based on mathematical modelling results and can
include the following:
1. Structural enhancement
2. Structural modification
3. Layout and plan recommendations
4. Security systems
SODIS LAB can perform unique applied element modeling (AEM) techniques
to analyze a structure’s response to explosions, terrorist acts and earthquakes.
AEM is the same technique as used to analyze the September 11 terrorist attacks
and the subsequent collapse of the World Trade Center.
Additionally, SODIS LAB uses the advanced finite
element modelling software ANSYS for their
calculations and is able to create mathematical
models of any complexity and scale — from single
components to full-size building designs where each
floor is unique.
The SODIS LAB team performs the following
structural analysis:
1. Deflections
2. Sediment stress and strain
3. Natural vibrations
4. Mode shapes
5. Stability analysis (critical loads and buckling
modes)
6. Dynamic analysis (vibration, seismic, wind, blast
or other dynamic effects)
7. Non-linear analysis (such as contact-interaction
taking into account large displacements,
cable-stayed or span structures,
non-linear material properties)
SODIS LAB is able to confirm the structural analysis
results in real structures as well. For this, please refer
to our structural health monitoring service.
Since 2009 SODIS LAB has several high-rise building projects in Moskva City, Moscow’s new International
Business Centre. SODIS LAB works on the project design, installation and commissioning of structural
monitoring systems and building equipment monitoring systems.
Building information modelling(BIM)
For each project, SODIS LAB prefers to integrate all work into a single BIM model,
so that the model can also work as an asset management system.
SODIS LAB can also create a complete model from partner’s models and plans.
Managing a full BIM project can be complicated without correct oversight.
SODIS LAB has architectural, structural and MEP BIM specialists who are capable
of providing complete oversight of a project. Together with a specialized task
distribution system in which multiple companies can participate,
SODIS LAB is capable of being the link between the owner-developer
and all design companies to make sure BIM projects are executed
efficiently and according to the wishes
of the owner and developer.
