We Hold Together a World of Products

Spirol International may not produce a hot, trendy product, but without our engineered fasteners, everyday items would not perform. You will find Spirol products in the car you drive, your cell phone, the subway train you took today, the medical device that your doctor used on you, your cosmetic case, your radial saw, or your kitchen appliances. You have literally come into contact with Spirol products thousands and thousands of times in your life. We have customers all over the world, in broad and diverse industries.

At SPIROL, we work with customers’ design engineers to examine the best way to fasten and hold their products together. In addition, we work with our customers on assembly and manufacturing engineering to achieve the lowest total manufacturing cost. At the end of the day, our customers have a new product, which they will launch, and usually it includes Spirol’s components holding it all together. Ours is a technical consultative selling model. Solution EngineeringOur objective is to enhance our customers’ competitiveness through improved product quality and reduced manufacturing cost.

Customers can rely on SPIROL to be a design partner to help them improve fastening and joining applications in their assemblies. Whether the challenge is related to product quality, assembly or cost, we will work with customers to develop solutions to meet their objectives. We accomplish this by defining their product and assembly criteria, and we innovate using our extensive engineering experience and product knowledge.

In the end, by working with SPIROL at the design stage, customers will have a solution that lowers their overall cost, improves product quality, increases the robustness of their manufacturing process, and gets them to market faster.

In addition, we are the only manufacturer of a broad range of fastener-type components that also provides the installation equipment. This gives us unique insight into the intricacies of feeding and installing many different types of fasteners, and it gives our customers a reliable single source for their fastening solutions.

Because we supply numerous customers with similar products in similar industries, we are able to meet most needs with our standard processes at no additional cost. When customer requirements are unique or complex, we have the resources and expertise to engineer solutions.

We are accessible. Our Sales Engineers are located in the field for responsive personal assistance. Their experience is vast and diverse, and their competence is unsurpassed. We have global locations to support international companies with geographically diverse challenges. We are fully equipped with electronic communication resources, and can help our customers facilitate local design and seamless global supply.

Our UniqueSelling Point:

When customers contact some suppliers, all they ask for is a print and delivery time frame.

We consider this a lost opportunity.

We ask customers: What if an alternative product could reduce your total assembly cost by 20%, 50% or 70% and improve your product’s quality?

This is the SPIROL difference...We deliver innovative solutions based on customer application and business objectives.

A Tubular Rivet was used as a hinge pin for the handle and pawl in an automotive door handle. The door handle assembly was made of plastic.

Prior Solution:This customer was using a Tubular Rivet as the hinge pin for the handle and pawl. They were experiencing problems with noise (buzz, squeak and rattle) with the Tubular Rivet. The customer approached SPIROL for a

recommendation on a fastener that would eliminate the noise problems that they were experiencing, as well as explore the possibility of a cost savings.

Drawbacks of Prior Solution:The Tubular Rivet did not provide a tight fit. By design, the Rivet had a clearance fit through the hole and was retained by a formed head after being installed. The clearance is necessary to allow the body of the Rivet to pass through the hole without damage. In addition, the heading operation occasionally caused the hole in the plastic assembly to enlarge. These two factors created a loose hinge in the door handle and caused it to rattle. The customer tried staking the Rivet tighter to the assembly, however this caused cracking of the plastic boss.

SPIROL Solution:SPIROL investigated using either a Coiled Pin or a Knurled Pin. After a complete technical review, it was decided that the inherent design of the Coiled Pin would provide many benefits in this plastic door handle.

Benefits of SPIROL Solution:Unlike a Rivet, a Coiled Pin has a friction fit. The diameter of a Coiled Pin is

larger than that of the hole and the coiled design applies constant radial force to the hole wall. A Coiled Pin holds itself in place

by conforming to the hole and maintains its flexibility throughout the life of the assembly. Replacing the

Rivet with a Coiled Pin eliminated the noise problems associated with the use of a Tubular Rivet. In addition, the Coiled Pin provided a tight fit and eliminated the need

for any secondary operations for retention. This significantly reduced manufacturing

assembly complexity and cost.
