WE PROCLAIM GOD’S WORD

Old Testament Lesson - Isaiah 42:5-9 pew Bible, p. 630

Anthem - Ride On, King Jesus! arr. Hall Johnson (1888-1970) Ride on, King Jesus! No man can-a hinder me. For he is King of kings, he is Lord of lords, Jesus Christ, the first and last, no man works like him. King Jesus rides a milk-white horse, no man works like him. The river of Jordan he did cross. No man works like him. King Jesus rides in the middle of the air, oh, he calls the saints from everywhere. Ride on, King Jesus! He is the King, He is the Lord, Ride on, Jesus!

Timothy Sparks, tenor

New Testament Lesson - Ephesians 4:25-5:2 pew Bible, p. 183

(10:00) A Time with the Younger Church Children through fifth grade are invited to come forward.

Following our time together, all children will return to their pews for the rest of the worship service.

Sermon - Turning Over a New Leaf Tracey Daniel

WE RESPOND TO GOD’S WORD

*Hymn 754 - Help Us Accept Each Other BARONITA

Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer Robert Galloway Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Presentation of Tithes and Offerings

Offertory Anthem - Prayer of St. Francis Allen Pote (b. 1945) Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, thy pardon, Lord. Where there is doubt, let there be faith. Oh, Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there’s despair let me bring hope. Where there is darkness, let there be light, where there is sadness, let there be joy. O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. Oh, Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. For it is in giving that we receive, and it is in pardoning that we are pardoned. And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Amen.

*Offertory Response Hymn 709 - God, We Honor You ABUNDANT BLESSINGS

*Affirmation of Faith from A Brief Statement of Faith (1991) We trust in God,

whom Jesus called Abba, Father. In sovereign love God created the world good

And makes everyone equally in God’s image, male and female, of every race and people,

to live as one community. But we rebel against God; we hide from our Creator.

Ignoring God’s commandments, we violate the image of God in others and ourselves, accept lies as truth, exploit neighbor and nature, and threaten death to the planet entrusted to our care. We deserve God’s condemnation.

Yet God acts with justice and mercy to redeem creation. In everlasting love,

the God of Abraham and Sarah chose a covenant people to bless all families of the earth.

Hearing their cry, God delivered the children of Israel from the house of bondage.

Loving us still, God makes us heirs with Christ of the covenant.

Like a mother who will not forsake her nursing child, like a father who runs to welcome the prodigal home,

God is faithful still.

WE GO IN GOD’S NAME

*Hymn 541 - God Be with You Till We Meet Again RANDOLPH *Charge and Benediction

*Closing Response Hymn 591 - Halle, Halle, Halle (refrain only) HALLE, HALLE

*Chiming of the Trinity The worship service ends with the Chiming of the Trinity. Please be mindful of those who remain to listen to the postlude.

*Postlude - Toccata in e minor Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706)

COMMUNITY ALLOCATIONS COMMITTEEThe Community Allocations Committee of White Memorial Presbyterian Church allocates funds given by the congregation to the agencies in Wake County that provide for the needs of individuals and groups in the community where our church has strong commitment and involvement. While no precise definition is possible in assessing need, we consider agencies that attempt to provide basic needs, teach life coping skills and promote self-sufficiency. The Community Allocations application process begins in September of each year, and awards are announced in February. All Grant applications are due September 1. If you have questions, contact Gloria Johnson at [email protected].
